Scrapper 2016 !
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:23:16 PM »
Here in Nashville we have a very active 'older bike ' club . Mostly all older Honda, Kwacker, Yammy and Suzi stuff from the 70's/'80's. Every year we do a '24 hr. Challenge' where a
team of 5 or 6 folks build a bike, 150cc or less, for a max. of $500 and then ride it for 24 hrs. non-stop !. Each team member does a 4 hour stint before handing off to the next rider. Those little motors never stop running for the 24hrs at WOT !!. Most of the starters finish !, with extreme side-of-the-road wrenching on most bikes, it's a hoot, cookout and 24 hr. party at ' Base', mandatory check in, mileage recorded every 6 hours... coming up again May 2017. Here's me and  the contender I bought after the event,1969 CT-90 with Lifan 125cc motor. Clutch crapped out after 1,000 miles @ WOT.... ( warning posed pic ! )

So, where do you run them at WOT?
as good as a lifan may be, it cannot hold a candle to a Honda motor...
Sym might be able to as they built motor parts and some motors for decades until they ventured out on their own, breaking away from the teat.

So, is this year's secret weapon a secret until the event?

Man, running them at WOT the whole time?!  It's a wonder most of the bikes survive to finish.  I suppose there are allowances for refueling and hand-offs, but still WOT for at least 23 hours.  Is there a course or are you allowed to go wherever?

You set your own course, mostly highway with as few traffic lights as possible. Last year there was a mandatory run up to Monteagle, TN. where you had to buy something in the 24 hr. gas station and show the receipt. Most contenders did it on I-24 at night = cooler and less traffic.... here's the little c-90 on the way to Monteagle....

Sounds like a twist on the Le Mons races with their $500? specials in their endurance racing all across the us at various tracks.
Great tongue in cheek humor as well as the outrageousness of so many entries.
But, that is 4 wheel stuff not the 2 wheel focus of this site.

There are active Giros and Tiddler runs in the NE that are fun too. The clubs are pretty active...some gorgeous bikes too.

Ray, sent you some email but have not seen any replies.
