Ok, this has gotten rediculous;
the price of hay in Vermont now ranges from $6-9/bale for mulch (I use them in the garden to cover the potatoes).
Don't know what the price is for hay feed, but probably more.

I wonder if this is because of the long droughts suffered in previous years around the country.

  There was a big shortage and high prices in Michigan at one time in the not so distant past and people were trying to practically give away horses and other critters to get out from underneath caring for them.
