I know Iannone gets a bad rap but it looked an awful lot like JL crossed wheels with him and then ate a fat dog turd.

I thought it was interesting what Larry Pegram said about Lorenzo in the pre show on bein sport.  It was something to the effect that Lorenzo was hired to win races and championships not to develop the bike.  Pegram then said if Lorenzo doesn't start to show progress that the internal pressure at Ducati would go way up over the next few races.  Pegram said he had 1 or 2 races to get the Ducati on the podium or it was going to get real awkward in the Ducati camp.  Lorenzo then threw it away and blamed Iannone.  They showed the contact from a couple of camera angles and it was completely Lorenzos fault.  The pressure may already be weighing on Lorenzo.

Lorenzo's only mistake was letting The Doctor goad him in to going to Ducati.

Lorenzo's only mistake was letting The Doctor goad him in to going to Ducati.

not sure if it was just rossi but i bet the temptation of being able to do what rossi couldnt was a big factor in him going to ducati
there will be no big pressure on him from ducati at the moment , they will give him half a season or so to get his act together [ rossi got two years ]. there will be a new tyre for america next week
they are calling it the rossi tyre [ as he has been the one asking for it ] but it should suit lorenzo and marquez as well . rossi is the one to watch he is well in touch at the moment
and when we get to europe where he traditionally does well it will get interesting

in the interview i saw lorenzo blamed himself , when did he blame iannone scott?

I tend to agree with that sentiment.  Obviously I'm not inside Lorenzo's head, but it seems like he feels he'll never get out from under Rossi's shadow unless he can do something Rossi was unable to do, which is win on the Ducati.  I know it's way too early to call it, but so far what he's doing is just following in Rossi's footsteps even more.  I'm not a huge fan of Lorenzo, but I also don't dislike him.  I try to put myself in his shoes, and the thought of having Valentino Rossi as my nemesis is frightening.  That guy is simultaneously charming and absolutely ruthless.  The harder he fights against him, the worse he makes things for himself.

Lorenzo admitted fault to the crash.  The point of posting the video was Lorenzo cursing at the bike and then dumping it on its side.  Total disrespect to the team, the manufacturer who have spent a prince's ransom to recruit him from Yamaha, and the Ducatista.

In contrast, you never saw Hayden or Rossi doing this during the Ducati dark years when they crashed out, whether by their fault or the bike's.

During the race one of the commentators broke in and said the Ducati garage made a statement that there was contact from Iannone.  I just watched it again and the commentators add Iannone's past instances with Dovi and Lorenzo and the insinuation is this might be similar.  Lorenzo didn't actually say it was Iannone's fault.  They then replay the start from several different angles and it was clearly Lorenzos fault.  I guess my impression was that Lorenzo had blamed Iannone.

rossi and hayden were probably glad to get off that piece of junk [ as it was then ], i dont see frustration as disrespect and either will ducati
i did see rossi attack an aprilia petrol tank with his crash helmet once !

Junk or not, they didn't publicly throw tantrums at their bikes or throw them to the ground.  Nicky more than anyone was a consummate professional about it and never said a nasty word about Ducati.

I was a huge Hayden fan.  I probably still am but it has been so long since he was a serious threat to consistently podium in any series that it's hard to still root for him.  He tried the disgruntled champion route with Honda in 2007. I don't remember any outward tantrums but all kinds of stories about how the bike was too small for him and that it was really built for Pedrosa.  I remember him always talking about the lack of grip.  It didn't work for Nicky in 2007 and he learned to be the happy rider outwardly that he is today.

Rossi's situation with Ducati was completely different.  I think he was coming to terms with not being the fastest rider on the grid and getting older.  He was also dealing with Lorenzo's status as the fastest Yamaha rider.  Rossi's Ducati adventure always seemed like an attempt to reinvent himself and portray an underdog image.  If he was moody it never would have worked.  Different situations and different riders.  Just my opinion.

i am also a big hayden fan but he has had plenty of temper tantrums as well . its an emotional sport and this is all part of it . god knows what cafe racer fan would
have thought about sheene , schwantz , lawson ,gardner , roberts , doohan etc etc he would be appalled that they didnt tow the company line at all times .
john kocinski once announced at a press conference that he could have done more with the turd in his toilet than that bike , he made up for it at a latter race by crediting
the quality of his honda branded socks for his win !

That's true Simon we have had some interesting characters, not always gentlemen.  ;D However at least some of those guys are responsible and to be thanked for making todays racing safer.

We're all partially guilty for creating the large heads in the sport so when Lorenzo has a fit, it's partly our fault! The media turns these guys inside out and the viewing public demands to know their every thought. The pressure must be tremendous but I'm not feeling that sorry.

Most of these guys are friggin aliens how well they ride these monsters. In my time I think of all the privateers that could have been good enough, but who wouldn't "conform", and who would blame them. I find it interesting reading & watching the politics and it frustrates the piss out of me. People love winners.

No, it's not all about being nice.  It's primarily about being fast and winning races.  But, this is club racing or lower tier privateering.  MotoGP is business and entertainment, so I don't think it ingratiates you with the manufacturer paying you MILLIONS of Euros to publicly disrespect their bike with an audience of millions watching on television or if you are publicly unsportsmanly.  Save it for when the cameras are not covering you.

Just my opinion, of course.

There have been very few successful gentlemen racing anywhere near this level, that's sure. I'll bet Simon that you would also remember incredibly fast riders that never made the big show cut because they couldn't be "handled", that was my point. Some of those guys make today's GP riders look gentlemanly.  ;)

Don, I would take a guess that JL might be talked to about his part in your vid but these guys are never out of a camera shot. I expect they'll be patient for a while yet. He has to be frustrated but I'll bet the team is working hard to remedy that. I won't judge the guy, he needs seat time.

Fair point, Brent.  Larry Pegram commented that JL had a couple of weeks before Ducati might "turn" on him.  I found that hard to believe, since the Duc is such a different animal than the Yamaha.

I think Casey Stoner can still ride the new Duc fast.  It makes you wonder what Marquez could do with it . . .

oh i can brent . i had a mate called bob smith , he was brilliant on a tz750 . won the british championship , would beat haslam and sheene on his day
alas he made joey dunlop look well dressed and chatty so there was no works ride for him . sadly he died trying to get one

ducati will not turn on lorenzo they know he will get there . actually he is very positive in all the interviews and does feel he is close to getting it right
the crash happened because he got such a good start and his corner speed was much higher than those around him , but what was he supposed to
do sit around at the  back or just go for it ? he went for it and it didnt work .
remember ducati didnt turn on rossi and he had two awful seasons with them

Good point. Like Rossi, Ducati has invested a pile of lucre to have Lorenzo ride the Desmosidici, and two years.

I wasn't opining that Ducati would turn on Lorenzo anytime soon, just that they would likely prefer that their riders not dump the machine to the ground.

much as we thought  , all blown completely out of proportion by wankers  who have nothing to do with it .
the people who have a lot to do with it couldnt care less .

if he gets a couple of decent results they will find someone else to pick on

Well fasten those seat belts boys, tomorrow could be a barn burner.  ;D Lorenzo pretty happy with a row 2 start, good on him. MM will be trying for the start of his life against the two blue machines. This could be the head to head between MM & MV we've been waiting for.
