RC, Jr., budman and palepinter:

If you have the time, please post a brief summary of your build with photos -- what you started with, what you were aiming to build, what challenges you had, who if anyone helped you.  Fellow, voting members have an interest in the backstory of the bike build as much as the finished bike.

Russ Collins, Jr.'s tribute bike to his father is pretty self-explanatory, but if Russ could give some additional details, that would be great, too!

I'm getting good pictures of all three bikes. These three are all very cool and extremely well done. Since only one can win the other two need to be re-nominated as soon as they are again eligible.

Thank you again for the honor to be amidst such nice bikes.  My goal was to build a bike using as much stock Honda parts and what else I could fabricate on my own. My budget was really my biggest obstacle.  It forced me to either make it or wait till I could afford it.  Patience is not one of my virtues.  :)

The bike was about a 5 month build.  The sheetmetal work was all started with the junk tank that came with the bike.  It was a rough roller when I started, merely a motor in a chassis with wheels and front end.  That enabled me to not feel any guilt in not restoring it to it's stock glory.   In regards to the build, the biggest difficulty I ran into was the charging system and the two consecutive malfunctioning regulator/rectifiers I had.  I sure wasted a lot of time assuming that there was no way the second one could have been faulty.  Live and learn.  All in all, it was a very fun project that I learned a ton from.  It should enable the next one to go a bit smoother in some regards.

Painting was the easiest thing on the project for me as that is what I do for a living.  I wanted to pay homage to the stock lines and styling of the era, but yet add a bit more bling to the color choices. The paint is all Matrix Specialty Coatings, a Valspar subsidiary and one of my sponsors.

The help I received from this forum alone, was enough to get me through this project.  Many great suggestions and input were offered along the way.  Special thanks to Shawn Smith aka Innovativems for all the time on the phone picking his brain with a few of the issues I dealt with.

I'm not sure what to do, Sam.  It is displaying on my MAC, PC, iPhone and iPad. Sometimes, my PC is finicky and displays a picture symbol with an X in it, but right now it's working fine. I'm not sure how to fix it universally.  Have you tried a restart of your computer to see if you graphics chip needs a reset?

How true! They are all very nice!

I had to vote for Budman after seeing his bike in person this weekend. The pictures do not do it justice. It is absolutely original, gorgeous, and super sanitary.  ;)  8)

Like someone mentioned previously, 2nd and 3rd place finishers need to be re-nominated for a future BOTM.

Many know but for those who do not, Russ Collins did a hell of a lot to show off the capabilities of the CB750 in drag racing, even linking 3 motors together (Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe) in a single bike.  RC Engineering made some great hi-perf parts.

Also, when our very own Sam Green was injured drag racing, Russ Collins, Jr. and company helped raise money for Sam to get back to England by giving donors t-shirts for every $50 donated.  Sam is a popular member, but I think it helped grease the wallets of people wanting to help Sam get home to heal, too.

Russ Jr.'s bike not only looks gorgeous but seems like it can move down the drag strip with all due alacrity.

Kudos also to budman and Palepainter for their good looking rides.  I just wanted to let the folks at RC Engineering that we appreciate what they did for Sam.

Well Don, thanks for the mention about young Russ and his help when I needed it but I didn't put his new bike forward for inclusion into BOTM for that reason, it was because he had just got it road worthy at the right time and I know only to well how we can struggle at times to get a decent amount of bikes for inclusion in any one given month.

Besides young Russ, you will never know how much love I have for the members of this forum who put their hands into their pockets  when I really needed it and for the members of my team, Bill, Cal, and Larry who set up the PayPal account to raise additional funding to get me home to England.

When I did get home and my brain started working again (well sort of, I'm still under the Neurological department at my local hospital) I asked my Son Jonathan to contact all of the people who had donated via the email addresses given on PayPal and there were quite a lot, so if you didn't receive one, thanks from me here and now personally.

I'm sorry for the long winded post guys but please let me finish with this. The first person from the forum who donated and we tried to contact, I didn't recognize him because he was not using his real name. I'm not going to disclose his real name but he knows who he is and he's a Muslim. Forget what is going on in the World today, on here we are all brothers and lovers of motorcycles and the SOHC Honda in particular. Please Please Please, no more slagging them off or posting jokes about them, it's offensive to them and it's offensive to me, I love this guy to bits.

Thank's for listening if you haven't gone to sleep. hahahaha.

My first CB750.. And of course it's modified...it's a genetic thing.

It has my Dad's 836 kit, head work , big cam, 29 smooth bores etc...now, I did want a fairly stock reminder of my youth. This bike reminds of so many Z1 hunters that RC built for our customers. I love it...and I get why these were called the 1st Superbikes.

This was found in a wherehouse with over 200 other bikes being stored at Z1 Parts, Inc....one of our sponsors for our drag racing efforts. They collect primarily Kawis but ventured into worthy CB's. After a year of visits...this dust covered ride was dragged out into light...I did not have to paint it...one item down. I pressed to find just any 750 with good compression on all 4...170lbs all holes. Not bad I thought. Then my restore partner, Randy Troy out of Carlsbad, CA went to work. We discovered the bike had an RC 836 kit and was very healthy. Every crusty part was sent out for rechrome or upgrade to stainless...wider rear rim etc...carbs were a mess. About 40 hrs in, he had a very strong runner and then he "churched it up" with the shiney bits, all new bearings, Hogan rear shocks, progressive front springs. Every electrical piece and wiring all replaced with factory correct parts.

Thank you Sam and freinds for even considering this bike.

Still needs RC pipe ...duh, different handle bars....and some braking improvements even though these stock units are new....I think I ride too quick....lol.

Carries the wheel at about 6k in 2nd and I believe is a mid 12 bike all day.

Russ Collins Jr.

PS...I will beat that supercar in my next outing!

Thank you all....the timing was wonderful. I just spent over 8 hrs going through the last of my Dad's personal notes....notes that had never seen the light of day. It was a very humbling experience....seeing the genius that he dedicated to the CB 750.

I'm not done with this bike...I have freinds right here that will take it through its journey....befitting my heritage. Without them this would be neither fun nor possible.

Now I will go to the garage and tweak some to beat a certain super car...after riding again yesterday...think we got this!

Russ Collins Jr.

Pretty stiff competition...you all were very generous.

Correct ...I nor my Dad had a street legal version...we were building so many customs for streets customers ...we just " test rode " them up to the Rock Store or drag strip...depending on set up.

I'll never forget a Rickman framed high end build, Cobra we took up to the Rock Store with me riding two up with Dad. I only weighed 99lbs and he had no problem smoking everything out there that dared blip the throttle. I was bit hard after that weekend!
