Title question
« on: April 17, 2017, 02:43:27 PM »
I have a 1969 cb750 that I am going to transfer title into my name. Both the frame and engine are in the 1500 range so I know or think I know it's a '69. The title that I have is a California title and I'm in Texas. The title calls it a 1970. I have been looking for a chart or some kind of documentation to bring to the DMV to get them to change it from 1970 to 1969. All the information I have found lumps the 1969 vins together with the 1970 numbers. I have been looking for something that says the1969 cb750s had vin numbers ranging from 01 to - . Or something that says any vin under - is a 1969 for example. From past experiences the results you get depends on the documentation you bring them and which person behind the desk at the DMV you get. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Gregg

Check with your state DMV, since you are changing states it may be as simple as putting 1969 on the application.

But I wouldn't be too worried about the year on the title. It wasn't unusual in those days to use the year the bike was sold on the title and not the year of manufacture.

Many previous year bikes were titled in the year they were sold and many Honda shops back then followed this practice.  As long as the owner knows to order parts for a different year, nobody ever seemed to mind this minor titling issue.

Still, at least here in Louisiana, an Affidavit of Physical Inspection at the local Louisiana State Police office would be where I would begin to plead my case.  Once convinced that I was correct, I would then go to the DMV Office where with a little luck and an understanding clerk, it might get changed.

I'm in Mississippi no way would my state put 69 on the title if it says it's a 70 model now.  But we can still get clean original titles from a savage title. Mississippi is the only state left that cleans titles

Congrats on owning a low vin number early Sandcast. Do you have any pictures to share. I wouldn't get to hung up on the year of the title being 1970, won't really affect the overall value and as mentioned some states issued the title the year the bike was sold.
