Brake swap

Can I use a master cylinder from a 72 cb350f on a 78 cb750?
Also, in the pictures, what does this round looking thingy do under the alternator cover? My new gasket covers it up, it looks like it could slide into the cover.

The 350 cylinder can work but no brake light wires, and I think your lower tree has no mount for the brake switch. That plug wont go into the cover..but keep in mind, if you try kicking it over...plug can come out..followed by oil..
