Hey from Steamboat Springs, CO
« on: April 19, 2017, 06:12:15 PM »
Hey Everyone,
So overnight I became the owner of a 71 CB500, its got some dings and dents but it doesn't seem in to rough a shape. A work friend was joking around yesterday and said he was moving out of town today and had this bike that he was just trying to get rid of, he said it runs but I have the battery on charge, new gas in it and need to get some oil to top it up. I paid $300. Super excited to have the chance to get it running and ride it around town, both on dirt and paved roads.... and hopefully this will become a slow but documented rebuild and potential modification into a scrambler style commuter bike.
I look forward to meeting more owners and learning everything I can about the bike and its history.
I'll post photos as soon as I can figure that one out, and get the album up...

Cheers!

Kelham

Great price and we can get you going. Just don't buy anything for it too quickly or you could be wasting money. Ask questions here first and somebody will be along soon to answer.

This is a better battery than Wallyworld has....

looks like nothing but great reviews stevo, I'll get one on order for a back up.   had to grab a Walmart elcheepo to see if she turned over.... which she did, unfortunately didn't fire, the culprit is a broken spark plug cable. got a new set of plugs and wires on order with an oil filter from 4 to 1 so aiming for the weekend... fingers crossed.

Good looking bike, you got a great deal.   Appears to have original exhaust which is getting hard to find.

A little help...

Over to the right of the picture under the "Share This Photo". Sounds like either way works  ;)

Thanks Stev-o !! Hopefully I'm up and running soon....
From my understanding its the original exhaust but the previous owner said it has a few holes in it.... I haven't found them yet... but I found all the dents...
not sure if theres a good way to get them out but I have thought about replacing it down the road.... sounds like I should hang onto it??
I'm looking to keep the clearance of the stock pipes or go higher if possible...

No way to get the dents out that I know of.  Small rust holes can be filled high high heat JB Weld.
Wait til you get it running, you then hear how bad the exhaust leaks are.
