Well you will only see the decal. I don't have the badge. The owner will be installing that.

Here's a pic of the side cover in the sun. It is almost useless  :) The thing pops so much you can't get an accurate pic with a phone camera. But trust me, when the sun hits it, the large silver flake shows up, big time. The yellow spot in the pic is just reflection and is not yellow in person. To get a good representation I think I would need lens filters.

The large flake silver base. That is how these paints are applied.

YES! This man understands!

Most painters these days don't want to do the large flake base.

Most customers do not want to pay for the extra work it creates.   ;)

A tri coat is extra work sure. But large flake verses a smaller flake is no extra work or time.

True, not much difference if you are just going to candy over either mini or large flake.  But if you are doing graphics and taping is required, you should probably sand the carrier coat or clear it before taping to keep color from bleeding through under tape due to topography.  That is the extra work I am referring to.

This is the first candy job I did with graphics. Most might think, no big deal. The flames are metal flake, true metal flake. Some might not understand that. But doing the metal flake over a candy . . it kicked my butt several times, until I go tit right  :)

Tank is done. I tried to get better pics, just can't do it. In the shade, not much flake is seen, in the sun, it goes crazy and doesn't photograph well at all.

Pete, I tore into the box today to see the tank and covers that you did for me. They looked fantastic in the pictures. In real life, they are absolutely outstanding. You did a great job on them. Thanks.

Two things:

you need to clear the top side of the fuel fill opening. On the place where the fuelcap is resting.
If you don't do that the paint will not hold and the paint will come of resulting in a desaster.

Original these were also free of paint.

Second: next time make sure that the space between the tank and the attachment of the fuel fill opening is not completely filled with paint.
If someone spills gasoline it will find a way underneath the paint either at the lockside or the fuelattachmentside resulting again in paint coming of.

(Sorry but I paint more than 50 tanks like these per year for different European countries for years now. These are things that always go wrong and always give problems after a couple of years. Leaving the customer thinking it is all his fault).

You won't find the codes. The red candy shown here was bought at VMR Paints.

Wow, that really looks spectacular, I can't imagine how great it looks in person. So many colors don't show well using camera phones. Stock CB750 candy blue green doesn't even come close in photos, it turns blue with little green.
Great job.

I agree 100%.  After painting many, many tanks myself..it's essential that the paint edge around the filler be sealed from fumes.  Before it gets any gas in it, I, too, would sand that back to bare metal at least 1/4" and then put a swipe of JB Weld over the paint edge.  Here's a tank that I painted 6 years ago for a client that I'm doing some touch up work on.  Notice the JB Weld around the filler opening.  Not even a hint of discoloration after all those years.  It would be a shame to see your beautiful work go south because of not sealing it.

The edge of the paint is cleared over. There isn't an edge of paint that is open to gasoline.
