A tri coat is extra work sure. But large flake verses a smaller flake is no extra work or time.

Two things:you need to clear the top side of the fuel fill opening. On the place where the fuelcap is resting. If you don't do that the paint will not hold and the paint will come of resulting in a desaster.Original these were also free of paint.Second: next time make sure that the space between the tank and the attachment of the fuel fill opening is not completely filled with paint.If someone spills gasoline it will find a way underneath the paint either at the lockside or the fuelattachmentside resulting again in paint coming of.(Sorry but I paint more than 50 tanks like these per year for different European countries for years now. These are things that always go wrong and always give problems after a couple of years. Leaving the customer thinking it is all his fault).
