Repainting side covers paint the inside?
« on: April 22, 2017, 02:47:34 PM »
May be a silly question.  When you are repainting the side covers do you paint the inside too? Mine have been repaired and a bit ugly on the inside as well as a number 691120 1. I'm thinking of masking off the numbers, prime and do a light spray of the colour coat, candy blue green.
Any comments or thoughts? Am I being too anal again?

On my last paint job, I did have the inside of the new covers painted, they are aftermarket and I didnt want the bare plastic to show.
I just had him spray a coat of color, no clear or buffing.

I did not repaint the inside of my recently repainted side covers.  Nobody will ever see those areas.

I paint them a light gray sealer-primer. I discovered that painting both sides of them with the color I want makes them look very dark. Not intuitive: just an observation...when I do my own K2 covers next, I plan on painting the insides white, to see if it might brighten them a little, just to see...thin white, not heavy paint.

Well, I took a deep breath and primed the inside. The bike will never be sold so I won't have to explain about it. If it loses at a show because of it, my bad. Thanks for your input. The insides look better to me now. These are original covers by the way so I taped off the numbers printed on them.

I always paint the inside of side covers, especially if they've been repaired.  If not the color, then a satin black.  I also paint the back of fairings, and underside of (non-chrome) fenders and gas tanks, too.  Very few people do, and the factory never did but it's a nice touch.
