My seat came in today. I'm really happy with the side profile of it. I think it needs some work at the back end, though. It's made on a factory style pan so it's kind of square at the back. It would look better if it were more round. I'm going to take it to a local shop and see if he can fix it for me.

I got my engine painted over the last few days and put it in the frame today after work. It is so much easier than doing a cb750. I'm hoping to get the carbs and exhaust on in the next couple days. I took the seat to my local shop. He said he didn't have time for it, so I'm going to attempt the modification on my own. I got it semi apart and it looks simple enough.

Got the seat modified. Its not perfect, but i think its an improvement.

Everything else was pretty minor. I really wanted to get the carbs together and on and mount the pipes, but it turns out the exhaust flanges for the cb77 don't fit the cl exhaust, so I had to order new ones. I wasn't going to rebuild the carbs because I cleaned them before I took the bike apart and it was running fine, but I decided all the old rubber parts were too dried and cracked, so I went ahead and ordered rebuild kits. Its starting to look like a bike, though.

My chrome was finally ready for pickup today so I went ahead and threw a few pieces on. The exhaust is just loosely on so I can get an idea of how it will look. I wish I wasn't going out of town for a week, I really want to get this thing together.

I got a bit of work done today. Front and rear ends are completed and put together for the final time. I also got my exhaust painted. I started to put my carbs together, but the kits I got don't have the bowl gaskets I need. I'll be heading to the local parts shop tomorrow to see if they stock them, if not I'll have to order them. Still a long way to go, but as long as I can get my gaskets tomorrow, this thing should be a runner by the end of the weekend.

I'm in the process of getting the carbs set up and I'm having an issue with the left carb. The slide is really tight so it won't move up and down freely. I've tried both slides in both carbs and they both move fine in the right and are tight in the left. They are marked left and right, so I know I have them together correctly. I've cleaned it out and I can't see or feel anything stuck in the bore. Any suggestions for a fix? Do I need to just get a new carb?

I had a similar problem and spent hours honing/fine sanding the bore with emery and fine paper. Seemed to work well...Larry

I got the electrical hooked up minus the ignition system. I ordered new coils, electronic ignition, and regulator/ rectifier and it hasn't come in yet. I wanted to make sure everything is working correctly and hut the starter to turn the engine over. That's where I think I have a problem. I can here a tapping sound that I fear is a valve hitting a piston. I was very careful about making sure all the marks were perfectly lined up on assembly, but something definitely sounds wrong. Anyone have thoughts on this? I'd love to avoid dropping the engine and taking it apart, but I fear there's no way around it. Here's a short video.
