FI inside Weber carb conversion...just an idea.
« on: May 27, 2017, 02:04:46 pm »
Been thinking....
Not unheard of in the hotrod world, to hide FI inside vintage carb bodies.
As many on here know, I am rather fond of Webers...
But at this point I have a few sets of dual throat Dellortos, I would rather mod them, than the Webers.
So basically I think both makes have a chamber on the bottom, with access plate to both throats. That if possible would be the preffered spot to mount the injectors.
If the original throttle plates can be used, that would be excellent.
May mean milling out a bunch of the inside parts, never to be working carb again.
Some on here are pretty familiar with the carbs... Like Scottly for example..

Anyway, just had this thought, and if anyone has any input, lets hear it.
I will discuss it as well with a local engine builder that is familiar with the Webers, and hiding stuff.

Seems like a great idea. Triumph has been doing similar with the Bonneville series of bikes.

The most difficult part using Webers (or Dells) may be having the injector discharge on the motor side of the throttle plate; there isn't much distance between the throttle and the manifold mounting face. With EFI, the injectors are usually mounted close to the port, preferably directed at the back of the intake valve.
