Quick update....with the engine back in the frame and bolted up, I next wanted to install the oil tank.

What were I'm sure forty three year old oil lines looking kind of nasty, I really didn't want to reinstall those.  Forum member Rafi started re-popin these oil lines last year, I had an early set he made installed on The Park Racer.

After I pulled this motor, I PM'd him asking if he had any left. He didn't, but said he planned on making some more, and he has. These are a great upgrade for a real reasonable cost.  Thanks Rafi.
[see his thread in the parts for sale section if you are interested]

Mmmm I do like those oil lines too!! :)

A little cooler today [only 96!] so thought I'd get a little shop time in.

Pulled the rear wheel to clean and check sprockets, brake shoes, bearings and the BT45, all look good. Also cleaned the chainguard and swingarmarm while the wheel was off and out of the way.
The Bridgestone does show some minor wear, but I think it's good for another 1000 miles.

Wheel back on....

Who makes them?
Are any available?
I would like some new ones for my K3.

Quick update....

Chain cleaned and back on...

New oil filter and polished cover back on....

Left side covers button up...

But holding off putting the sprocket cover back on.  Upon inspection of the wiring harness, noticed some burning on the large connector...

...and another wire looks to have been pinched. Damn PO!

Luckily, its just the short alternator wiring harness, no damage to the main harness.  A replacement is on the way...

Looks great Steve, well done! Are the spokes really badly rusted, or just covered in chain grease? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The rear spokes are neither rusty or covered in grease, I did give them a cleaning when I pulled the wheel.  They are a dull gray as opposed to shiny stainless on the front. One day they will get changed, possibly when the tire wears out and gets replaced.

Quick update and a question....

Received the alternator harness and got it all connected up.  Installed the sprocket cover, ground cable as well as the AGM battery, I now have a cranking motor! [another minor milestone]

When I installed the ground cable to the solenoid the rubber cap that goes over the connection is worn out and I want to replace it.  I checked the fiche and do not see it. Anyone have the proper name or part number. Look here for reference...thx

Next up is everyone's favorite task....installing carbs!

I have my "special tools"...........

Really not bad, had the carbs on in 15 min.   Then cleaned up and installed the airbox...

Jesus Steve-O, you been using that 2x4 for a while, huh.

I like a little smear of bearing grease on the lip of the carb boots...
If it works good, it looks good...

That 2x4 is perfect, Sean.  Old and soft, easy on the carbs, and angled just right on one end.

I'm guessing you use the 2 x 4 as a lever to push the carbs into the carb boots?

Actually to push the carb boots [with carbs] onto the head, Bud.
That's how they came off during disassembly.
The 2x4 fits within the frame from the top and gives ample amount of leverage.

I may start re-popping this "tool"!

Maybe you could have them CNC'd out of billet aluminum.  How much?

So, with carbs on and a cranking motor, I followed Hondaman's suggestions on how to prime and get oil pressure:  kick over motor 40-50 times followed by a couple short cranks with the electric starter [about 3 seconds ea].

I did this a couple times but could not get the oil light to go out.  Then, getting all excited, I thought hey, with fuel in the carbs this thing might start?!

Hooked up the fuel line, cranked it over a couple times and we have a runner!!!

Here is a video, the start up was a little premature as the cables weret yet connected and the air filter not yet installed..
