Topic: Not a SOHC question

This is a question about 1979 CBX......
I just acquired one that has ratty aftermarket exhaust and want to go back to close to standard exhaust- chrome, 6 into 2, not stupid noisy etc.......
Other than Delkevic, does anyone know of a system that fits my requirements?

The stainless Delkevic ones really are a great value.  Well made too.   MAC makes one, but I'd choose the Delkevic over them.

I got a cbx as a basket case about 3 years ago. Restored it and before I was done with it someone wanted it more than I did. But they are very nice bikes.

$1300 may sound like a lot but you'll be hard pressed to do better.

I've paid close to that for exhaust systems for my Z1 and H2.

Marving in Italy makes an excellent 6-2 exhaust for the CBX. It does not quite look like stock, because it does not have the reverse cone end caps but rather the megaphone appearance similar to a CB900F chrome exhaust. Still better than any of the 6-1s out there and better performing than a Kerker 6-2. We did some dyno tests on my 79 CBX and it was better than that and the stock exhaust
 If you have connections to Europe, you can get one for as little as $700.- (plus getting them to N.A.) , but I have seen them on ebay for under $1,000.- Definitely an alternative to Delkevic or even the Sankei repros -if you could find one.

If you get involved with a CBX, you will find quite a few idiosyncrasies. Parts prices have been driven into the stratosphere systematically by people who are in it for business. Even those who dismantle bikes tag a higher price on everything that says "CBX".
Some of them on ebay use shill bidders to drive prices up! Beware of the two from WI who are actually one and the same business!
Of course, the prices for complete bikes are going up and so are parts, as a result.
You would think that the model that was produced in the lowest number would command the highest price among collectors. Not so.
Everybody wants a 79. Because they think the (nominally) 5 hp difference make the bike sooooo much faster and more desirable.
In stock form all other models handle better and have improvements the 79 does not have.
I should not talk, I have three CBXes myself...

What did your buddy give and what did he get? If he gave up the head and got a CB750, he got a steal. If he gave up the CB750 and got a head, he got screwed. I have, probably, 5 spare CBX heads. I would trade them all for one complete CB750...
