Sunday sunny Sunday, and it's all right! You know what it's like when the weather is great, it's warm but not hot (a very comfortable 80 deg F) and all's right in your corner of the world? Well that was my day today. Yesterday I drove to my little home town 200 miles away to visit my ma, so this morning I got up early, jumped in my car and drove back here so I could get some more done. I installed the sidestand, the grab handle, carb drain hoses, then (very carefully) lowered the bike onto the ground so I could turn it around.

It was nice to (for the first time) to roll it around with a front brake, as my driveway slopes quite steeply, and last time, with no brakes hooked up, it was a bit scary. I love the "Beeza" bars, kind of a cross between standard bars and pullbacks, and no need for longer cables etc. I hope they're just as nice once I'm riding it.

Anyhoo, I turned it around and lifted it back onto the table.

OK, once secure back on the ol' table, I got stuck in. Installed speedo and tach cables (good used ones, none of them fancy new store bought ones, y'hear? Then I hooked up the clutch cable and was delighted that the clutch actually appears to work, I hope it's as nice as the one in my K1, it was very well behaved compared to some I've had.
I removed the old points plate and was shocked to see that there was some very old alloy welding behind it! Now I don't think this engine's ever been apart, but something's happened as I think it's thrown a chain as there's evidence of some alloy welding near the front sprocket, and now this, makes me think maybe the chain got thrown, locked up the back wheel and threw the bike on it's right side? I forgot to take a pic, but basically, one of the tabs that the points plate screws into had broken away and has been welded back in. Not particularly neat, but looks like it's held up OK, and can't be noticed with the plate in place. I installed the Dyna III plate.

I also installed the shorter rear braided oil hose that Rafi sent me, that looks way better than the manky old OEM hose, very nice, thanks Rafi!

So a few more bits and pieces to do before I can hit the "fire" button, but I'm getting excited! The weather is gonna be very nice this week, so I should have a good couple of hours after work each night to finish ("finish"! Woohoo! The most exciting word in the Redneck bike builders vocabulary!) all the little bits left, and sort a couple of minor things out that I ran into today. I almost filled it with oil, but then I thought how bad it would be if it all leaked out while I was at work tomorrow, so decided to hold off until I get home tomorrow. Have a good one, y'all!
