Aha, new carb boots! Nice, the only situation I like to wrap a rubber on! Honda is the choice and the cheapest alternative/km and years.

Yeah, I was keeping them for my K0, but hell, The old ones were rock hard, so I'll add them to my pile of projectiles for my "buggared parts cannon" I'm building...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

You could build a small rollong gantry crane with 2 ton cable puller with the hooks on both ends and large ratcheting lever to pull the item you are trying to bring to you.  Some layers of building supply wall framing boards screwed together as a beam for your top beam.  Reinforce the corner joints with triangles of plywood screwed or bolted to those corner beams where the design changes direction.

Is that a home defense weapon or a home security weapon?  Or just a S&G machine?

Ha ha, just for fun David, I've lived in this house for 16 years and have never had a need to defend anyone other than my cats from the occasional angry bird, (probably after one of those arsehole cats ate their babies)so no need for any "Home Defense" measures here. I'm thinking about powering it was gasoline, way more bang for your buck than gunpowder, and like me, cheap.......

I like your plan for the ramp/raising/lowering system, I do have one of those electric winches that I bought on ebay almost 20 years ago and have never taken out of the box, but I don't think I'll need it, according to one spec I read a CB750 weighs 235 KG with fuel and oil in it, so I reckon mine will come under that with the smaller exhaust, no tank, no gas, no seat etc. Not by much, but hopefully enough to safely get it on the ground, turn it around and back on the bench, I'm really enjoying working on a bike at a comfortable height for a change, rather than crawling around on the concrete floor!

I had to go back to the doctor today, I went to the pharmacy to collect some anti-inflammatory medicine for my broken toe and my sore hip, and the pharmacist spotted a lump on my wrist that's been growing a bit of late and told me to go back to the doc, so I'm off to have an ultrasound on it next week. Last time I saw anyone having an ultrasound was when my wife was pregnant with my two sons, so I'm hoping my beautiful Redneck wrist isn't fcuked too.......... Cheers, Terry. ;D

Damn, can you really do that? I thought I got it off a toilet seat........... I decided to take my side stand off today and splash some Rust-O-Leum on it before I turn the bike around on the bench. I removed it, degreased it, hit it with a nice thin coat, then as I was admiring it, dropped it in the dirt. I think it'll go in the cannon too..........  ;D

Sunday sunny Sunday, and it's all right! You know what it's like when the weather is great, it's warm but not hot (a very comfortable 80 deg F) and all's right in your corner of the world? Well that was my day today. Yesterday I drove to my little home town 200 miles away to visit my ma, so this morning I got up early, jumped in my car and drove back here so I could get some more done. I installed the sidestand, the grab handle, carb drain hoses, then (very carefully) lowered the bike onto the ground so I could turn it around.

Redneck Sunny Sunday by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

It was nice to (for the first time) to roll it around with a front brake, as my driveway slopes quite steeply, and last time, with no brakes hooked up, it was a bit scary. I love the "Beeza" bars, kind of a cross between standard bars and pullbacks, and no need for longer cables etc. I hope they're just as nice once I'm riding it.

Redneck Sunny Sunday 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyhoo, I turned it around and lifted it back onto the table.

Redneck Sunny Sunday 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Sunny Sunday 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

OK, once secure back on the ol' table, I got stuck in. Installed speedo and tach cables (good used ones, none of them fancy new store bought ones, y'hear? Then I hooked up the clutch cable and was delighted that the clutch actually appears to work, I hope it's as nice as the one in my K1, it was very well behaved compared to some I've had.

I removed the old points plate and was shocked to see that there was some very old alloy welding behind it! Now I don't think this engine's ever been apart, but something's happened as I think it's thrown a chain as there's evidence of some alloy welding near the front sprocket, and now this, makes me think maybe the chain got thrown, locked up the back wheel and threw the bike on it's right side? I forgot to take a pic, but basically, one of the tabs that the points plate screws into had broken away and has been welded back in. Not particularly neat, but looks like it's held up OK, and can't be noticed with the plate in place. I installed the Dyna III plate.

Redneck Sunny Sunday 8 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I also installed the shorter rear braided oil hose that Rafi sent me, that looks way better than the manky old OEM hose, very nice, thanks Rafi!

Redneck Sunny Sunday 7 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Sunny Sunday 15 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I then installed my sweeeeet finned covers, kickstart pedal etc, and exhaust.

Redneck Sunny Sunday 11 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Sunny Sunday 13 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

So a few more bits and pieces to do before I can hit the "fire" button, but I'm getting excited! The weather is gonna be very nice this week, so I should have a good couple of hours after work each night to finish ("finish"! Woohoo! The most exciting word in the Redneck bike builders vocabulary!) all the little bits left, and sort a couple of minor things out that I ran into today. I almost filled it with oil, but then I thought how bad it would be if it all leaked out while I was at work tomorrow, so decided to hold off until I get home tomorrow. Have a good one, y'all! ;D

Which oil will it get? A 20W-50 Motorcycle oil of unknown brand and quality? ;) Corn oil will not be good enough, right?

Ganglion cyst? Google it. Stab it with a fresh sharp needle and see if it will drain. May not need to go to the doctor. That's much easier and less painful than hitting it with a book to pop it. Damn Pharmacists  ;)

Ha ha, well I don't buy "motorcycle" oil Per, I use the cheapest possible car oil (usually from supermarkets) because the cheapest quality car oil still exceeds what was available for our bikes back in the day.

The "Elephant in the room" of course is the gear tooth that I found sitting in the sump pan all those months ago, I'll be interested to see what effect it has before I get too excited, as I may have to haul the f-ing engine back out and replace it with that other engine I bought a few months ago. We'll see.

Jerry, thanks for the advice, I'll do some googling, the doc said he wasn't sure what the lump is, but was keen to send me off for an ultrasound. The good thing about "socialised health care" is my taxes pays for my trips to the doc, so no biggie to get a pro to take a look. ;D

Well it's almost summer, I can almost feel that sweet sunshine, thawing out this heart of mine............. With apologies to the late, great, Billy Thorpe, another great artist gone to God too damn early. Anyway, life goes on, and after I dragged myself away from the ol' salt mine today, I went back to doing some more stuff out in the patio.

A problem I encountered yesterday was the brake pedal hitting the exhaust. I discovered that I needed to loosen off the exhaust header clamps, and make a spacer for the muffler bracket to pull the headers away from the pedal. I do so enjoy turning stuff on the lathe.

Redneck Monday Meanderings 7 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

As you'll all recall, my original intent for this bike was to make a rough bitsa using whatever parts I had out in my garage, but like most projects I'm constantly revising my original plan (not that I really ever had a plan) so this close to the end of this project, if I see something I don't like, I'll just fix it. I didn't like the rusty axle nut, there was a new one in a box from many moons ago, so I swapped it out.

I'll leave the split pin out until it's first ride, just in case I need to remove it again in the interim.

I pulled out the lovely Dyna 3 OHM coils, complete with (I presume) Hondaman's diode setup. I'll need to pull out the instructions I've got here to see how to wire them, I blew up a Martek ignition years ago by inadvertently feeding power into a signal wire on one of the pickups, so I'll read twice and cut once. I'm thinking about running just the one "pull" throttle cable, yes I understand the ramifications if the main return spring breaks, but to be honest I've never seen a main spring break, so I'm thinking of just going for it. Thoughts?

Redneck Monday Meanderings 6 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyway, it was just thinking about getting dark, and I needed a nice cold drink or ten, so I wandered back indoors. More tomorrow! Enjoy some Billy, on me. ;D

This is a beautiful build as I expected it would be. I was trained to be certain that any operational control should be operational.  You have also affirmed that black Rustoleum was really all you need on the frame etc. It is tough and easily touched up.

Ha ha, well I don't buy "motorcycle" oil Per, I use the cheapest possible car oil (usually from supermarkets) because the cheapest quality car oil still exceeds what was available for our bikes back in the day.
That's perfect! I gave my bike the best oil I could find in the late 80's after GTX2, Mobile 1. The only thing was clutch slip when shifting to  5:th gear on WOT, release throttle a little and full again, "6th" gear went in... :) 836, +80 rwhp
Most km my bike has done is with car oil! I remember the foam in oil tank after initiated riding with the cheap oil of early 80's.

Terry, you'll check you spare engine is OK?  The gear tooth sounds like a show stopper.
Open the lower case and have a look after cleaning the oil pan and pump strainer.

Man, the temps have gone thru the roof! A couple of weeks ago it was still chilly out, and now this. I don't mind, it's nice to sit out in the patio in 90 deg F weather drinking a cold one!

Redneck Wednesday by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyhoo, I finally installed the Dyna III with Dyna 3 Ohm coils that I bought from Chewy, spent a little time making up new connectors etc, only to discover that the ignition module was dead. Bugger.

Redneck Wednesday 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Luckily, being the resourceful Redneck that I am, I had another one that I bought somewhere many years ago, and installed it, and now it works fine!

Redneck Wednesday 6 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

So, I had carbs, I had a working ignition, all I needed was some fuel.

Redneck Wednesday 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

And.............. It lives! Woohoo!

And it started right up on 4 cylinders! Surprisingly it wasn't very smoky, there don't appear to be any oil or fuel leaks, the clutch works, and I was able to shift it into first gear without any problems. I only ran it for a minute or so, but I really am happy that it actually runs! More tomorrow! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

That would be true redneck fashion,  8) but I would recommend splurging on a split pin here. What if you forget? Then what if the nut works loose causing you to crash?  :o How much do split pins cost down there? If you need one (or twelve) I'll send you some for free, I'll even cover shipping! At least slap an old used one in there as a temporary solution...  ;)

I will often put a new one in place and just bend the long leg out 30 degrees or so, just enough to keep it from falling out. Then when I'm satisfied with the assembly the split pin gets its final "set".  ;D

Is a nail locking rear axle nut redneck style? I used a nail most of the years before.  3"

Ha ha, thanks guys, and thanks for your concern Wilbur, I should have explained that my first "ride" will be around the block (maybe a mile?) to see if the rear brakes/chain will need adjusting, as I've only adjusted them roughly on the bench, but with no weight on them, it may be necessary to re-adjust.

The speed limit in my street is 50 KPH (30 MPH) so I don't think I'll die in a ball of fire at that pace, but who knows? With all the alcohol in my system I might self immolate?  I need to have a split pin present for the roadworthy inspection that needs to be done before I can legally ride it anyway, so fear not, I will live to tell the tale! (Probably)

Jerry, it's that F-ing F engine that is running so well, I'm just hoping that it'll get up the road happily with just one gear tooth missing, hell I'm missing several teeth and am still functioning perfectly! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
