A REAL redneck would use a nail!   Just sayin'.

Actually, a real redneck would rely on corrosion with a few cobwebs thrown in and call it good.

Is a nail locking rear axle nut redneck style? I used a nail most of the years before.  3"

I can assure you that a nail will not shear off causing the back wheel to loosen off and lock up...promise

or in the case of a vespa with a stub axcle to attach the back wheel to, it won't shear off and allow the wheel to part company with said axle...promise

please don't ask how I know this, it still hurts
i blame Terry

Well after 4 days of summer temps, we're back to winter for a few days, but that's OK, as long as the rain doesn't come in sideways, I have a few little jobs to still do before I head out on my maiden voyage.

Tonight I bolted up my 135 DB dual Redneck (Chinese) horns but didn't wire them up as I need to work on the other side of the bike to do so, and that can wait until it's on the ground. I did hook up an oil pressure gauge though, and I'm not proud to say I spent a whole $15 on it, but what the hell, safety is everything to this ol' boy, so probably worth the expense.

I went to start it, it cranked a couple of times, and "poof!" the power went out! WTF? The battery is new, it's one of those el-cheapo (of course!) orange AGM suckers, and appeared to have enough charge to crank the engine over pretty quickly, so I thought maybe I'd popped a fuse, but no, the 10 amp fuse was fine, so I eventually put my test light across the battery's terminals, and, nothing! Weird. Anyhoo, it's on the charger now, and hopefully will be fine tomorrow. Little steps still, but so close I can smell victory! (or maybe just my own BO........) ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's right Per, they're the ones! I also bought a Stebel horn but it's too big, so I've borrowed the relay from that, and I bought a separate heavy duty wiring harness which I'll need to shorten by a few feet to make work. Should be good though, I had a similar set up on my Suzy GS1000 and I gave a couple of dopey car drivers a heart attack when they decided to merge into my lane without bothering to look!

Jerry, I'm getting excited too, I know I've got at least one gear, so I'm ready to be heading down the highway, looking for adventure, or whatever comes my way....... ;D

Nice setup Per, pretty much exactly how I've mounted mine, although I think I'll make up new brackets as the ones that came with the horns are very flimsy.

Sad day today, our poor old cat died. "Canada" was given to my oldest son by his then girlfriend when he was 18, the gf's long gone, he's moved interstate, but poor old Canada remained here with us for 14 more years. He flies down from Sydney every week and stays with us for a couple of nights, and on Wednesday night Canada went straight to him and hopped up beside him on the couch, and stayed with him until he went to bed. I knew that she wasn't gonna be with us much longer, and I was touched to see how happy she looked, curled up beside him. I won't forget that image for a long time.

Anyway, I sorted out my electrical problem tonight, turns out I needed a couple of better earth leads. I made a couple up, running one straight from the negative terminal to the coil bracket, and another to the engine cases. The idiot lights came back on, and the engine fired right up. The oil pressure is good, the only issue is that the charging system doesn't appear to be working, so I'll need to take a look at that too. All going well, I'll be riding it this weekend! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yes, the horn brackets are really flimsy. I hear them vibrate when riding faster than the signs recommend.

Sorry about Canada. I keep expecting to find my old cat, Poopie Head, laying still at my feet each morning. Something about food though that keeps him living.

Hey thanks guys, and I love Ron's video, when he hit the horns, Emily the big Maine Coon cat jumped about a foot into the air! She's recovered quickly and is curled back into a big fluffy ball on the couch, and Felix, the big fat black poofter, is mumbling in his sleep in the leather recliner beside me.

I've got to get some breakfast into me and get outside, trouble is the warm weather we had earlier this week has disappeared again, and it's looking cold and rainy outside. I'll get out there soon........... ;D

Well little things can take just as long, or even longer than big things, or so it seems. First job was to machine up an oil pressure gauge adapter, as the one I cobbled together from various parts was leaking a tad. I had a nice chunk of 1" brass hex, so I got stuck in.

Good news is that it all worked well, with no leaks when running!

Next was the horn brackets. The ones that came with the horns are so thin they could double as feeler gauges! I had some nice 1/8" stainless steel strap, so I quickly copied the old brackets onto something a bit firmer. Didn't take long thanks to a nice sharp step drill.

I also tucked come wires away, degreased and painted a seat latch, stripped the paint on a couple of seat brackets, found a fuel petcock and generally just jumped around from one little job to another.

Of course I haven't gotten around to painting a tank for it yet, so I wiped the dust off my red K0 tank, just as an interim measure. It's pretty cool in it's original 47 year old paint, which, admittedly is a little worse for wear. It's super solid though, pretty clean inside, and only needed a new seal in the original cap.

It does have a couple of dings though, so, not wanting to harm the original finish, I pulled out my "Ding King" (us Rednecks love our gadgets, "As featured on TV") and after quite a few pulls it's slowly popping out, I think. I also pulled out the seat that Nic sold me way back when I started this mess, so I just sat the seat and tank on the frame to get an idea of what it's gonna look like, and I gotta say, I'm pretty damn happy! More tomorrow!

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
