congrats on finishing the bike and I sees evil in that little kittens face. my cat gnocchi assumes that position every night as soon as I hit the couch to absorb some televisual goodness but he likes to hold on to my neck with his claws just to make sure I don't move and disturb his rest time

I have a set with the Impacta for the 3+ and the regular 900 series for the #1+ and 2+.   They are great.

Yeah, the regular screwdrivers are needed as LBB says. But, that said, the ball handled are very nice for lighter work and great for initial assembly, easier to juggle a couple things with the ball handle and you still can get a good grip to tighten or loosen many screws.
Motion Pro came out with a T-wrench with JIS 1+, 2+, 3+ tips which can be moverd to where you need them on the wrench.  They are in a 1/4" bit holder socket.  While that is pricey, the nice thing about that is they sell replacement two pack of the JIS bits in each size.  So, the bits are not super high quality or hardened since they offer the replacement bits... The bits are around $2.50 and most places thst carry Motion Pro can get them, or order them for you, even the Honda dealer can order them.
FYI

Terry, have you found the bolt to start the build on?
Find a bolt, clean and remove all cow dung inspect and analyze it to track its origin, find all other parts the bolt belongs to and the parts connected with those.

Ha ha, well I'm finding all sorts of things today Per, some not too bad, and some quite scary! ;D

Anyway, winter has come back for a visit this week, and it's been cold and wet the last two days. I got home from work this afternoon about 4pm and even though the sky was full of big black clouds, I decided that I'd get my arse outside and sort out a couple of problems, namely, the charging system doing jack diddly, and the alternator cover's oil leak.

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Now when I installed that awesome finned alternator cover, I gave the stator a quick once-over and thought that it didn't look bad, so as I've done many times in the past, I cleaned all of the connectors and checked for breaks, then checked it again, but there wasn't any change to my voltmeter, at any throttle position. What was really weird though, was that with the green and white wires disconnected, the engine's idle actually picked up and smoothed out slightly? But once I reconnected them, it started to run a little rough? What the hell would cause that?

Bugger. Oh well, any self respecting Redneck CB750 builder prides himself on having at least three of every part he needs, so I went hunting through some crates and found another stator that actually looked a bit better than the one on my bike, so I whipped the cover off, and found............. this.

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Oops. In one fell swoop I think I discovered the cause of both the lack of electrickery, why it ran poorly with the alternator wires connected, and the oil leak! All of which was caused by my poor mechanical skills. Fcuk I hate it when I'm the only one to blame!

Oh well, nobody's perfect, and as long as you know you're a d1ckhead, there's no need to beat yourself up, am I right? Hell yeah! I took both the alternator cover and the gear selector cover off, and was horrified to find that there was no gasket behind the gear selector cover, just a dab of silicon!

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I hadn't pulled any silicon out of the sump or oil pump so was fairly happy that it wasn't gonna be a problem, so I went and found me some new gaskets, and cleaned out the cover. Have you guys noticed any other issues yet? Take a closer look!

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Yep, looks like there's only 2 of the 4 countersunk 6mm screws holding the bearing plate in place, and the other two screws were fcuking loose! Fcuk! I hunted around and found a couple of screws, only to find that the "missing" screws are only missing their heads, the threaded portions are still there, stuck in the cases! Double Fcuk!

Oh well, by this stage it was fast approaching 7pm and I'd almost had enough for one day, so I replaced both covers as I wanted to at least see if the electrics were now working, so I fired it up, and am reasonable happy, whereas the battery was reading under 12 volts before, not it was pulling just over 13 volts, so I'm hoping that with a fully charged battery it should do better again.

Redneck Tuesday charging system fix 6 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I connected up my Optimate 4 charger, put the cover back on as the rain was starting to fall, and came inside for some tea and sympathy, but settled for some Bourbon and chips. More to follow! ;D

So will you be able to extract the broken screws or just tighten up the loose ones and run it? Glad you found the deadly silicone and took it out of the picture and glad you're charging now too!

Ha ha, thanks men, Jerry I'm a regular Vegemite user, in fact I had toast slathered with the stuff on Monday night, it really makes for a fine repast! I've got a fridge full of beer and cider in my garage to wash it down with, but that stuff is an outside drink, when settled into my big leather recliner, my drink of choice is a fine Jack Daniels, or perhaps a cheeky little Bundaberg Rum, being the well rounded Redneck that I am.

Fred, yep, I need to pull that sh1t off and fix those busted screws, the rain and darkness stopped me last night, I'll sort it this weekend, But I'm happy I sorted the (self inflicted) electrical issue and the oil leak, that was pissing me off. I honestly don't know how those screws could have been snapped off, I suspect that a previous "mechanic" may have stripped the JIS screws and just drilled the heads off? I guess I'll find out soon enough!

It's gonna rain again today, but if I can get a break from it after work I'll try to work out why the high beam light is permanently on regardless of whether the lights are on or off? Once that's sorted, it'll be good to go for a roadworthy inspection on Saturday, and many adventures to come! ;D

Terry, the bolt mystery is connected to the tooth find, right ?
In worst case you need to remove the gear shifter stuff and the bearing holder to get the screws out. Check that the rubber plug is there and the o-ring.
You can find countersunk allen head bolts in the hardware store.

You should try marmite Terry, slightly milder on the palate and doesn't curl your chest hairs too much. sadly they apparently turn grey tho.
I like both of them.

Thanks boys, (is it OK to call someone "Boy" if they're also good, and old?) I haven't had Marmite in years, but even though it's a completely different taste, it wasn't bad, from memory.

Per, you might be right mate, I've no idea why they would have taken the bearing plate off unless they replaced the broken gear somehow, without splitting the cases? Or maybe they did, I'm buggared if I know? Anyway, I've got the correct size screws here, I'll probably pulle the cover back off on the weekend and fix it.

My beautiful Vessel Megadora Impacta screwdrivers arrived today, along with a new K&N air filter for the OEM airbox. Hopefully the lighter throttle spring and volt meter will arrive before the weekend, so I'll have plenty of stuff to do apart from mowing, and weed whacking, and all the other things I've been putting off doing for the last 6 months while I've been building this bike. The grass is so high I can't see my son's Ford Explorer that I parked in my back yard a few years ago, so I guess I better get it mowed, just in case someone stole his car........... ;D

The outer gear is possible to pull out when the bearing holder is removed.
I assembled my gear box that way but opposite, pushed the outer gear in when the shaft with all other gears.

Strange if the countersunk bolts have snapped, heads off that might been some kind of hard knock from inside?

TIA: call me a boy all you like. Is it possible the PO used too long of a screw and they hit the bottom of the hole and broke off. Hard to think they would have broke on install if not bottoming in the hole.

Any way, doesn't matter if you've got the fix. Good luck.   :D

Thanks boys, it is a mystery for sure, I can't see how the "mechanic" could have over tightened the screws to the point where he broke them, and anyway, the other 2 remaining screws were actually loose! (I've said it before, and I'll say it again, some folks shouldn't be allowed to own tools.......)

Anyhoo, if he did replace the busted gear that's a good thing, so digging out the remains of those screws and replacing that silicon sh1t with a gasket will be a small price to pay, for peace of mind....... ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

The grass is so high I can't see my son's Ford Explorer that I parked in my back yard a few years ago, so I guess I better get it mowed, just in case someone stole his car........... ;D
My Vessel Megadora Impacta screwdrivers arrived Tuesday. They look to good to take out to the garage and get all greasy.
