Ha ha, well that's a bit cruel Jerry, but look, I was born and raised in a small country town, joined the Army to "Get a career", married my childhood sweetheart, fathered 2 kids before I was 25, lived in rented accommodation for all of my army time, have owned 2 Harleys, drink too much Bourbon and have been arrested at least once. I have several guns, all of which are unregistered, and I like Donald Trump. (because he reminds me of Ronald McDonald)

I've had several pickup trucks (Ford and Toyota company vehicles) and amongst my 14 bikes and 10 cars (8 of which are parked on my property at various angles)currently own a fine Ford Exploder, the most popular "SUV" in the US! (my 1998 model was apparently voted also the most likely to explode in a ball of flame) I've owned lots of dogs (all strays, of course) and I can buy Moonshine here at some American stores, but I find that it tastes worse than English beer? I'm happy to buy some overalls and a straw hat, if that'll get me over the line? Cheers, Terry.

I didn't know what grits are, so I did a google search, and it appears that "Grits" are just an American version of "Polenta", of which your ma was probably an expert cook? All my dad ever said to me when I was a kid was "Jesus Christ!" so often that I actually thought my name was Jesus Christ until I was thirteen..........

Round these parts taking the Lord's name in vain used to get you a beating...nowdays few will speak up if they are offended. Lessen they are Baptist and then they will call down fire from heaven for such an offense and proclaim you are going to hell, lessen you repent and quick.  (no joke about Baptists... not that I am fond of hearing it at all.)

Terry,  Polenta is a Spanish dish, Italians are more apt to have a pasta rather than a corn dish...
It is a little different than grits as well.
Soup beans and cornbread being a staple most southerners enjoy along with collard greens and cool water pie and a good sipping whiskey (the later being a mortal sin for many Baptist...but so is overeating and you can't throw a stick without hitting a fat person in much of the US...)

Well that's good to know, I watched a few more of "Catfish Coolie's" vids, most of which feature him ingesting something disgusting and projectile vomiting. Very funny for sure, just not sure I'd want him for a neighbour...........

Anyhoo, back to the bike for a second, I had an excellent bit of luck last night. I found a K2 swingarm in Queensland that had recently been blasted and powder coated, but the seller hadn't used it as he actually needed a K1 swinger, so he'd put it on ebay for 75 beans (57 greenbacks) and I was the only bidder.

I've got a couple here, but both have been messed with by PO's. The worst offender was the redneck in the US who previously owned my K0, who among many other sins against motorcycle humanity, cut the unique chain guard mounts off. Luckily enough I already had a minty one for my 1969 K0 build, so I was gonna weld the chain guard brackets off another K2 swinger that's been tweaked, then strip the paint and re paint it, or get it blasted and powder coated, but now I don't need to bother, and not bothering suits me fine. It'll cost me another 30 bucks to get it sent the 1000 odd miles to Melbourne, but that's OK.

I'm also seriously thinking about buying a "Jane" copper/nickel/zinc plating Kit, once again, not cheap, but any time I can do the work myself, I think I will. I don't need anything particularly shiny for this bike, but the K0 will be a lot prettier, so I'm thinking that the Jane Kit might be a good investment..........

Polenta is an Italian staple. It is simply cornmeal that is fried or baked. It is different than grits.  While my Mother is Italian, I do not remember eating it.  I posed the question to my Mother and she made a face. "That is for peasants she said, we were never that broke."

As a kid, we had shredded wheat, corn flakes and on Sunday some pancakes. I love good pancakes so much my callsign was flapjack.  Now you want a good pancake you need to do it West Point style. They use cake mix for batter. Light texture and very fluffy. Put some butter on those bad boys, slap some maple syrup on there and you were good to go.

Great find on the swing arm Terry. I knew this would not be a rat bike, you will not abide second best. Abide is another southern word.

When I was digging thru all my stuff I found a 1970's "Drag Specialties" custom seat that I can't remember even buying, and a sissy bar! Then I found some 2" over fork tubes, some "pull back" handlebars and a chrome plated side stand, this bike is gonna be in scruffy 70's heaven!

I've only eaten Polenta once or twice, growing up in a small Redneck town in the 60's, we had a lot of Italian migrants move in, who weren't treated well by a lot of the locals. Being a Catholic, I was in a similar situation, so I learned to fight early in life, and became quite good at it. Our next door neighbour died, and a family of Italians, the Polimeni's, moved in.

This was a life changing experience for me, being an Aussie raised on the standard 1960's diet of "Meat and 3 vegetables" the aromas that wafted from old Ma Polly's kitchen were heaven on a stick. We went to school with Tony, Rocky, Anna and Sebastian, and my dad found jobs for each of the boys as they left school. We were welcomed into the Italian community, and invited to all the weddings, engagements, and 21st birthdays. I was very touched when Rocky, who I hadn't seen since the 1970's, drove the 200 miles from Melbourne to represent the family at my dad's funeral 2 years ago. Good folks and great food!

My parents were from Italia, and Mama prepared home made Polenta and served it with a rabbit sauce, it was a delicacy!
It was really only made for special occasions, but I really didnt care for it as a kid.
Loved having the pasta twice a week though!  Mama was a great cook...

That sounds about right mate. Luckily being Catholic was not a problem. Being 1/2 German was. Most of the Jewish kids were not allowed to hang around with me. The few Jewish parents who would were very warm. Grandma and my Aunts were the cooks and the food was amazing, each one had to outdo the others.  It ruined me for bland foods. English is not edible.  German is a bit better. The Germans make amazing baked goods with chocolate and fruit.

Back on point. You have to put that sissy bar on, it is perfectly period correct. I attach a back pack on the back of it and using bungee cords I carry an amazing amount of stuff. People actually remark on the sissy bar.

Ha ha, yeah mate, true story, the house next door to the Polimeni's were the Janke's. Everyone knew that Mr Janke had been a colonel in the Waffen SS, but no one cared that much, most Aussies fought in the Pacific and so they spent most of their time hating the Japanese. I also went to school with some kids who were half Japanese (their father brought their mum back at the end of the war) and sadly they were given a real hard time.

Mrs Janke was a nice old gal and once again, I discovered a love for pretzels, sausage and schnitzels (too young for beer) in the Janke's kitchen. And yep, the sissy bar will be handy, I strapped my Alice Pack to the sissy bar on my old Sporty, and it served as a great backrest on long rides.

What do you think about dual Mikuni carbs men? I tried these on my bike years ago, but it ran like crap (probably because I didn't put enough time into it setting them up properly, but I've still got them sitting in a box, and I think I paid 500-600 bucks for them, so I should probably give them another try on my redneck special?

Photobucket seems to be enacting more restrictions on their photo library access as I have seen the 3rd party hosting junk image being displayed instead of a poster's intended image.  Just makes me want o drop them as a host and go to other areas.  Trying to force people to buy packages and restrict viewing to that o ON their advertising spammy site.

No photos Terry, likely need to copy and upload them rather than link unless you choose to use a link they will support.  Probably only by paying for it now...my guess as a cynic
