Best leverage is an old fork tube slipped over the ratchet or breaker bar.

That sounds like a good thing Larry.
I also think Terry Bob forgot to spit any tobacco juice at it

Yeah Larry, I sent Tim off to grab a fork tube for me but he came back with a 5 foot length of steel tube, and once I'd wasted half a bottle of gas and a goodly amount of WD40 it came loose. No rust though, just about 500 foot pounds of torque, probably from the factory....... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

What/how did you keep the axle stationary while turning that nut,Park position ?

When I arrived home Tim had the car up on new jack stands (mine have been leaning to one side for a few years now) and was attacking it with my rattle gun because the axle was turning, so I told him to refit the wheel after I popped out the centre cap, and with the wheel on the ground and the park brake on (it's a manual) it was (eventually) possible to crack that nut. I hope he's finished by the time I get home tonight! ;D

When we were kids we dreamed of having jackstands...

Wow, you had pretty low-end dreams Frank, I dreamed mostly about shagging women and riding motorcycles, sometimes while I was actually shagging women and riding motorcycles, but I NEVER dreamed of riding women and shagging motorcycles, that's just weird!

Anyhoo, I had grand plans of stopping by the big box hardware store and picking up two 10 foot clear PVC "patio blinds" on my way home from work, but when I saw them I realised that there was no way I could fit them in, or attach them to my car to take them home, they were 10 feet long! Bugger.

I still want them though, the idea being that I'll hang them on the other side of my patio's lattice work "wall" so that I can keep the wind and rain at bay while I'm working on the bikes in winter. I did think about buying four 5 footers, but of course they were 20% dearer, so I walked away slightly confused, brochure in hand. I think I'll ring the store tomorrow and have the 10 footers delivered.

I did buy a nice pair of gumboots for my next pressure washing session, I find that my feet and lower legs seem to get the wettest when I'm using the pressure washer, so hopefully these will help. I need to blow out the obstruction in the grit hose then strain the bucket of glass bead so it doesn't get blocked again, it was pretty damn frustrating getting soaked on a 50 deg F day with little result to show for my misery. I'm trying to blast the paint off my Henry Abe wheels, I've managed to get a lot off with just paint stripper and the garden hose, but of course if anything, they look worse than when I started........... ;D

Gonna have to quit doing  handstand on the breaker bars...
time for a ThunderGun (IR).  I have one and i t works a treat.
PB Blaster or Kroil those nuts...Need something that will actually wick into that joint that is stuck.

Good luck.
So, Sidchrome doesn't have warranty  on breaking?
Not familiar with brand, must be AU or Eastern company

How about a large roll of Visqueen/plastic sheeting.  It comes in clear and would block the air and from a distance might not even notice it has plastic over the lattice.

Sound like converting space to screened in area with plexi panels or glass panels to install in winter could make it more tolerable in winter.  Keeping the mosquito out would be one of my goals, another to keep ut the snakes if they are common where you live.

Ha ha, well I bought that 4800 psi water blaster to unstick frozen brake caliper pistons, Larry Billy Bob, but you're right, that's nowhere near enough for a real man, so I'll hook it up to the 600 BHP Ford 351C engine that's been sitting in the mother in laws garage for the last 30 years or so, it's about time I put it to use! ;D

David, Sidchrome tools were Australian made tools (made only a few miles from my place) and were the best quality available, but they were bought out by Stanley in the 90's, and even though Stanley stuff doesn't seem bad, the Sidchrome lifetime guarantee isn't worth the paper it's written on now.

But to be fair, the right angle extension was probably 50 years old. I "inherited" a really nice old tool box from Tim's ex girlfriend's Uncle Pete when he died a couple of years ago. Pete was a machinist back in the day, and was in his 90's when he booted the bucket. He'd had a falling out with his son and so when Pete died all his son wanted was to sell the house and pocket the cash.

So the ex girlfriend's family had to clean the place out. I got the toolbox full of really nice vintage tools, but I could have done a lot better. They offered me Pete's 1950's fridge, if I wanted to go pick it up? It still worked and would have been a great beer fridge but I had no room, so I said "No Thanks". They offered it to someone else and when they went over and pulled it away from the kitchen wall, they found 10,000 bucks in cash, and a Samurai sword that Pete had souvenird from WW2 hidden behind it. Bugger.......... ;D

Friday is my favourite day of the week. On Friday you make all your plans for the weekend, and of course, Saturday is about when they start to fall apart. Saturday was my wife's birthday (and, incidentally, my Triumph Rocket III's 10th birthday, happy birthday baby......) and even though I was dying of the 'flu, I valiantly drove her to the zoo for a birthday treat.

To be fair, she told me that I didn't have to, but I figured that if I didn't, I'd feel pretty guilty today (Sunday) sitting out in my freezing (55 deg F, at it's peak) patio/workshop working on my bitsa bike. Apart from being cold with the occasional shower, the zoo was still packed with people, but we still had a pretty good day checking out the animals.

Anyhoo, the wife was happy, so I could get back to the madness. My first task today was the swingarm. I hoped against hope that the old bushes would be servicable, but of course they were as sloppy as a 10 dollar whore, so I scratched my head as to how I was gonna remove them without fcuking the fresh powdercoat. I've got some really good wheel bearing removers, but of course none were the right size for a swingarm bush, so being the redneck that I am, I found some round steel bar and turned one up on my lathe.

Redneck swinger 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

The old steel bushes were probably the OEM items, and they were stuck good, so I still has to slit them with my hacksaw before they'd break free.

Redneck swinger 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Redneck swinger 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Then of course I needed some new bushes, and, as I still can't find those ones from the dude in Germany, I made my own.

Redneck swinger 6 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Turning swingarm bushes is a PITA. You have to ensure that they are a snug fit on the pivot tube, and a tight fit in the swingarm itself. The trouble is, you need to machine it so the outside diameter is slightly oversize so you can press it into the swinger, but once pressed in, it decreases the inside diameter. I thought I had enough clearance, but once pressed in, the bushes had effectively "shrunk" slightly, taking up all the clearance between the pivot tube and bushes. Bugger.

One thing I don't have is a good set of adjustable reamers to ream the bushes out, but in this case it was best that I didn't, as it turned out that the pivot tube's bearing surfaces were slightly oval-ed, so after I skimmed them in the lathe and slopped some Nyco grease into them, they were a really nice fit.

I finally got the swingarm installed and it was time to pack up and come inside. On Friday I'd had this wonderful dream that I'd have both the front and rear ends attached, (I've got to install new tapered roller bearings, so God only knows how long that will take, based on todays efforts.....) but anyway, I'm happy that I'm not gonna have to worry about a sloppy rear end, no one wants a sloppy rear end........... ;D

Ha ha, no, sadly Red panda's aren't native to Oz, they're from China and the Himalaya's, so maybe you could get one at Harbor Freight?

Red Panda by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyway, today wasn't much different from yesterday, what I thought was gonna be a simple task became a bit more difficult when I had just finished punching out the oild steering head bearing races, and I spotted this:

Redneck front forks by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Haven't spotted what's missing? OK, try this:

Redneck front forks 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

So sometime in it's life, the fork stop tab had been busted off the frame. Bugger. OH well, being a good Redneck, I made one and welded it on.

Redneck front forks 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Take a look at this men, some peanut (not me) has chopped the Rhino Horn off a K0-K2 top triple, what a monster! I bet he's a poacher in South Africa........

Redneck front forks 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyhoo, once I dried my tears I installed the "All Balls" tapered roller bearing kit.

Redneck front forks 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

It was then that I realised that I was gonna have to chop my fork stop tab off again, and weld it on a bit lower, because the fork stops on the lower triple now sit below the welded on tab. I'll make another, better one with folded down wings, it'll be great, really great, Donald. Oh well, next weekend........... ;D

It's all that K #$%* that's causing trouble huh! Good thing it's heart is F  ;)

A good redneck would grind down all that excessive weld weight too so don't forget that. Damn, I can't find my redneck smiley, the toothless one.
