And at 5,000 RPMs, you get how much? Getting enough is important to maintain a charged up bike. Getting too much (as previously) is worse; it burns up batteries.

not enough calj.  manufacturer thinks the regulator is bad.  going to send it to him for repair.  however i am on the other side of the issue now.  at least i'm not boiling the battery anymore.

U may have just had a bad connection at one of the bullet connectors causing a low voltage reading. While doing your test, you could've fixed the problem and not knew it.

that's my guess.  i'll run one more test on the regulator and see what the manufacturer says.  he's offering to repair it and warranty it for less than half what a new one costs and cover shipping when it's repaired.

What's a warranty if you're paying 50%? Or is it a pro-rated warranty? If it's a bad Regulator, I'd hope the manufacturer replaces it for free, you pay shipping for the return.

the reg was on the bike when i bought it.  if i'd have bought the regulator he would have replaced it no question.

Gotcha. Then he's a pretty stand up guy for that offer.

yeah i agree.  i told him i was surprised he was willing to even answer questions since i wasn't the original purchaser of the vreg.  his response was "The difference between me and many other people that sell parts is that I'm a biker and have been since I was first able to scrape up the money to buy my first bike...".  admirable that he gives a damn.
