Click here for the pics, how many times have we thought the same thing?!!!

"OMG!!!!! Enough all ready!! I look through Craig's list at motorcycles every day. I am soooooo tired of seeing almost worthless bikes, or really nice ones, that some fool took a hacksaw too and cut the fenders off, cut the seat down, put straight bars on, rattle canned the entire bike black, and now, not only do they think that the 1981 Honda CM 200 is worth 2 grand but they think they are bike builders! Or, and even worse, they take a really nice older bike and hack it to pieces and think it's cool! I am not a kid and have been around bikes my whole life, so listen up, if you want to make some money, take that old Honda and stick it in storage and let your kids make a little money on it when they are 50! I am a mechanic, and I can tell you that your labor is worth almost nothing when it comes to this stuff, I don't care if you have 1000 hours into it, its still only a 200 dollar bike! Your PE 175 wasn't a classic last year and won't be next year! I am done ranting but you guys need to stop smoking so much dope!!"

That 750 is mostly original though isn't it?

I cry for the XS650s everyday.

My shop guy has been trying to finish his bobber xs650.  Fire engine red, peanut tank, springer front end.  It's legit old school cool.

Some people though...  I don't want to crush anyones dreams.  Let's just say a little education would go A LONG WAY.

No.  He's preying on the untrained eye.

The oil cooler is just an accessory and easily removable if 100% originality is desired.

I did note the seat and painted cylinder. He mentions some wear items being replaced, the most obvious being the Kerker rather than the HM340's and that could also include shocks.

Original is probably not a fair thing to say, but I still think clean mostly original is fair. The things that aren't are all pretty easily and cheaply reversible with the exception of the exhaust. And the Kerker is a good looking, high quality replacement and the one on that bike appears to be in almost new condition.

The asking price may be too high, but the posting doesn't come anywhere near the level of the rattle can black backyard bobber/café abominations the ranter is talking about.

^^  Correct.
All the modifications are tasteful, and look to be well done, but, to claim "Original" and ask a price truly original/period restoration bikes might get at an auction, is a pipe dream ;D
It's a $4k bike on a good day.

I think the price depends on the market. Originality aside, that appears to be a super clean bike in need of nothing. Just a quick review of auction results last year and early this year would seem to indicate a value more in the $6k range. If it had a solid 4-4 and the original seat then $8k would probably be fair, assuming of course it runs perfectly.

The best part? Neither bikes have sold. Maybe we've some to our senses around here finally.

It feels like the Northwest is terrible about pricing, at least in the Seattle CL. The problem is that they will eventually sell.... I remember one from a couple years ago that was like an 81 cb750 'cafe racer project' that was basically a stock bike sans air box and a fiberglass seat. It was posted in Oly for like $3000, it clogged up the Seattle CL for like 3 years.

Saw a cb550k for sale on clist seattle.

$4200.

1500 miles on the clock.  Patches rivited onto the 4into4's and the usual rust in the tank.
