cb750 mixed clutch parts?
« on: May 11, 2017, 06:48:38 AM »
I have a k5 750 that I suspect has mismatched clutch lifter components from a newer "improved clutch" that came after the k5.
model. The suspect parts are the 4 that comprise the lifter itself (ball bearing assy and both halves, and the adjuster bolt).  My question is how to identify the newer components when compared to older ones. Are the differences visually apparent? The adjuster bolts are different in diameter by
about .025 by my ancient mic.  I searched for this but couldn't find anything specific other than
part numbers of mentioned pieces being superceeded for the k7. I am certain there is a long thread about clutch
diagnosis that addresses this issue as well, but I can't find it. Not apart yet, but would help to know
what to look for. Any clues/advice welcome..thx

I think the later hub is stamped '405'. The earlier hub carries '341' stamping.
The later lifter also has 'pintle' on it.

The hub is also taller on the newer version to accommodate an extra friction. I do have the bearing
with the pintle I.D.'ed. I know the cover is different in the later models, still chasing the difference in the lifter. trying to make absolutely certain clutch parts are correct and belong together, as I want to rule out clutch as cause of shifting issues......

I don't believe the lifter matters, just the basket length, the cover and the clutch guts. Just swapped out an earlier basket so I could install all the discs including the double metal disc in the center. The later cover is needed to accomodate the longer basket and it's guts.
