1959 Zundapp 250CC Super Sabre
« on: May 11, 2017, 12:33:33 PM »
So my girlfriend got herself 1959 Zundapp 250CC Super Sabre. It has been sitting for 10 years but is complete and is very good shape. Need to clean the Tank and carb, new battery and new tires...then I think we are a go.

Having trouble finding info on it. What is it gas/oil mixture ratio?

Anybody know about these bikes?

Thank you as always

It looks just like this:

thek if it eats the gear oil..old 2 strokes suck...the gear oil in the crankcase..and burn it..old sealings get hard. and the oil leakes through them.and on most of mine mopeds and small mc, i had this problem..i used to ride a old DKW 125..but now got a MZ es ..mostly the same engine..just made in the Eastern germany..but good kvality..germany bikes is problemfree..but the 6 volt systems need a good Sealed battery..a bit larger then the orginal..
you need to build a spare set of bulbs sparkplugs fuses..and the most used parts..as it gets hard to find them aut on the road shops..mine old dkw used 1:25 or 4% oil in the gasoline..use new types oil can go a bit less oil..so 1:30 is fine..i have a small tube vith some dl mix oil so i alvays can mix up 4 litter gas..make me komming home..gas mixing fuel stations is history

Cool looking bike, love the cylinder head, muffler and fender design, not so keen on that RED seat though!

Dont know anything about it, but here is the manual for a '61, looks the same. Wonder is the website name is trying to tell you something...Zundapp Fool!

 8) bike.   I had an old DKW that was 25:1 as mentioned. Newer synthetics would possibly be 40:1, I used Blendzall 32:1 in my 66 Suzi S32.  Good luck with it....Larry

As most smaller bikes in Germany in the late 50s, early 60s were 2-strokes, almost all gas stations had a pre-mix pump, mostly hand operated. The attendant filled a vertical cylinder with the amount of fuel you wanted and the unit mixed the appropriate amount of oil before dispensing it into the tank. We never knew what the actual ratio was. I assume it was the same for all bikes. Probably 1:25.
When we were kids, we ran around in the fields on old bikes the people did not want anymore. NSU Lux, NSU Max (4-stroke), DKWs, Zündapps and Horex. I still cringe thinking of that 350cc DKW and the Viktoria Bergmeister some friends had and beat up in the dirt.

When I have a little time this weekend, I will check through my files. A quick check brought up only the Zündapp Trophy 250S. 14.5hp 2-stroke single.
Introduced in 1958. This may have been the bike sold as Super Sabre in the U.S. The red seat was factory stock.
