Rickman Full Fairing or Not
« on: May 12, 2017, 02:48:43 PM »
Planning on getting my 78 550k back on the road some time late summer..

Saw this on Kijiji and picked it up,engine seized, lots of rust.....but  :)
I'm not positive but the Googling I have done points to a Rickman.
It comes with the headlight and frame mount, crash damage on right side, but fixable.
Going to need a new windscreen, have looked at Gustafsson's site.

I guess what I'm asking is it a Rickman as why spend the money on a screen that does not fit  :P
First pic is my 550 ,second 2 are the Rickman ?????

If you ask me that fairing needs to be on some bike.

Might as well be the one it's on.

my 2, dj

sorry it looks like you want help in identification and not if you should keep it. Can't say for sure what it is.

This might help:

Not sure I understand your question?

I would not spend money on a screen that does not fit.

):     ....   (:

I have not had my 550 on the road for 6 years and am planning on getting it road worthy again.

The parts bike is rough and has no title, engine locked solid, but soaking,rims/spokes crusty...seat beyond help, header junk, frame donated to a buddy...
I bought it for the fairing and plan on putting it on my Black 550k(pictured).
I have to do some work on the fairing and need to get a new windscreen ,but want to make sure what brand\model fairing it is,so
as to not buy the wrong screen...

It's definitely not Dunstall.  Possibly Dick's Cycle West or some other cafe racer fiberglass maker.

dude, which fairing are you asking about?  the one in the first pic is $25 garbage and has nothing to do with the second 2 pictures.

I think he's saying the first pic is his current ride. He bought the bike with the full fairing and wants to use it on the bike in the first picture.

I can't help with ID'ing the fairing, but the parts bike is an F model. I see pods, an oil cooler and an exhaust. Looks like it was somebody's baby way back when. It'd be interesting to see if the engine is stock.

Scott.....yes that's what I plan on doing, full fairing is to be repaired and installed on the Black K

The "parts bike "with the full fairing is an F,carbs are stuck, header had a rust hole in the collector about the size of your hand, baffle rotted out,so far nothing special about the engine,in the process of opening it up

This is a Rickman sports fairing like you saw dozens of in the 70's, shouldn't be too hard to find a screen for that.

And NO, this isn't mine, just picked an example off of google...

Well Rob,your searching is one step better then mine  8)   What was throwing me off was the single lower mounting bolt/hole on the bottom, most of the full Rickman's that I saw 2 bolt

I put the pics side by side, they even have the same striping ;D
But I'm not smart enough to put them both in one pic, I wanted to show them side by side, made a screen pic, but that didn't work......

Yup looks the same ,and the owner calls it a Rickman .....so unless he is wrong and other posters are right .... :-X :-X

But Mr Dudley said he used a Gustaffson screen(Aitrtech),so my problem is solved,I know where to get a screen...  :)

The Hondaline fairing I bought for my 550 has similar lines as the old Rickman's. I think it's a sleek sporty look vs the effective, but definitely not sleek Vetter.

I think that was a great pickup and with a new screen and some polish will look terrific on your bike.

I'm still not sure it is Rickman.  The one on Kijiji is a Rickman.  The one in the pictures like yours is Rickman-like.  There were many small companies making same styled fairings and knock-offs of other companies fairings.  If the Rickman screen fits then go with it.

Any ideas where I might locate replacement edging around a Rickman fairing? I  like the finished look and if the edging match's the original style that would be even better.
