Topic: Remove seat with broken lock?

I replaced the stock Honda seat/helmet lock on my CB400F with an OEM replacement from 4into1.com, and it lasted about 1 week. My seat is now stuck in place with my helmet locked to it. Does anyone know how to remove the seat from the lock? I've removed the seat pins, but I don't know how to detach the lock itself.

Don't know about the CB400, but on my CB750K8 after removing the hinge pins I think I got mine released by either lifting and then rotating the seat to get the latch to release (It engages two notches 180 degrees apart, so turning the seat 90 degrees should release it), or, if that is not possible, then I may have reached under the seat and unbolted the latch from the underside of the seat pan (most likely scenario, it's been a while since I did this). After the seat is freed then rotating the portion of the latch that was bolted to the seat should free it from the frame portion of the latch. The ratcheting box end wrench works good for this kind of thing.

Thanks for the reply. Twisting the seat didn't release the seat from the lock, but it did give me enough room to wrench the plunger off the seat, giving access to the seat lock bolts. The only damage involved was minor scuffs to the seat upholstery, but nothing noticeable.

Btw, 4into1.com noted that some of their seat locks were defective, so they're sending me a new one gratis, along with a new ignition switch so I have one key for both. Great customer service. Also, the "improved" ignition switch they sell is fantastic - much better than OEM.

Glad you got it sorted. I'm pretty sure that is how I got mine apart as well.
