Nice Points Cover
« on: May 13, 2017, 09:08:58 AM »
Just saw this on my phone from Yamiya site. I got very excited but it was short lived excitement after seeing the price.http://www.yamiya750.com/images/E397a6.jpg
$351.34 is quite a bit more than what I would pay for that piece of bling but I thought someone here might be game to get one.

Nice piece, and I think it's priced appropriately, given the work it takes to make something like that, and it looks like it's "billet" aluminum (not platinum) that's been chrome plated too.  There's a lot of program and machining time in that piece....just not something I'd be spending my money on, but for someone with the bucks......go for it!

I thought the decimal point was off to the right or perhaps an exchange error. Too bad as I need a nice points cover.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Perhaps the price will come down if nobody gets one. I would be in for maybe $75 as it is a really nice piece but I don't see it dropping that much in price. They also had one with a wing and no fins but I like the 750four much better.

Doesn't Frankenbike make points covers?

Personally, I wouldn't turn on my two machines it takes to make one for $75. There's a bit of work on something like that, that many fail to realize.

Now, if you set up a fixture plate in the mill, and run 10 of them per cycle, I could see getting down to $125-$150.

That's kinda what I said in post #5.  I've been a machinist for 45 years, and I can recognize workmanship that it takes for such a piece.  THEY'RE NOT DIE-CAST CHINESE MADE 50-cent pieces.  Quality costs.

I was a machinist in a former life and agree.  However, a large company like Yamiya is not going to have 5-10 of these parts made at one time, more like 100-200.

If J could produce 10 at $150, I would think getting the price point to $100 would be pretty easy when making 100 of them.

In all fairness to them, I don't have near the overhead that they do. I have two full time guys, and I'm one of them. Looking at their site, with the selection of various goods they have, I doubt they are making much, if any of it, themselves. That, drives the price up. Throw in chrome, if done well; That isn't cheap.

Whoa, missed it when it got interesting.
First off they are in Japan, its expensive to make stuff there, even more in small numbers.
We already have a member making I think a billet one with custom engraving.

Whatever gets made in tens, there is almost always faster toolchanger machines, that cut harder..produce faster.. But need numbers to make it happen.
Maybe J rod should talk to the other guy see if he will sell blanks.

It would be perfect if you were a chromosexual. But do you want to stand around and look at it or ride it?  :-)

With the proper tooling, it wouldn't be out of the question to run those at 500+ipm or so. Set them up on a plate where each cut runs across all the parts, come back and finish with the engraving on each.
