Greetings folks,

I've lived in Metro Detroit my whole life, and within the last few years, I have really gotten into vintage motorcycles. I moved back home from college in Central Kansas and i'm trying to do some networking in my hometown. Does anyone know about any vintage rides/clubs/meets in the Detroit area?

Side note... is anyone going to the Vintage Motorcycle Show & Swap meet on June 11th at the Gilmore Museum? I am really excited about this.  http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/event/vintage-motorcycle-show-swap-meet/

There is a motorcycle meeting - I think twice a year - in Stockbridge, Michigan (off of 52 between Lansing and Ann Arbor. Usually attracts quite a few classic rides.

I have been for the Saturday ride a couple times, but wont be going this year. Lots of old bikes, all running. I got goosebumps at the start when all were fired up and awaiting the roll-out. I have been to the Sunday show one time, but didn't show my bike: its a rider not a showhorse. If you look in the events page or the calendar, you might find photos from earlier Gilmore meets, I think they are still there. It is a terrific place and well worth a visit.

I try to post Stockbridge dates if I know them, also Holly.
Royal Oak and Ypsilanti have weekly bike nights.
Plymouth had (past tense) a fall Sunday bike show.

I've been to the Gilmore show two or three times, although never made it up for the Saturday ride.

It's a fun event and the swap meet usually has some good stuff. Member Sean Barney often has a space at the swap meet.

  • To many bikes-but lookin' for more
If you are also into old vintage/antique cars then the Gilmore will be a double treat for you as all the buildings and barns are open.

Thanks for these replies, gents! this is really helpful and now I'm even more excited for Gilmore. I will certainly check out Stockbridge and others too. Bike nights in Royal Oak are crazyyyy... a lot of super loud new Harleys and crotch rockets from what I have seen lol

You may already know this but MOTOPOW moved from Ferndale to Detroit, and they used to host events on the third thursday of the month, including bbq and movies. Their site is being updated, but I would check back for a calendar of events. Super friendly people that are happy to show you around their shop. I have had them do some work for me as well.

If you are REALLY bored, feel free to come to Ferndale and help me finish my 76 550k. I'll happily provide beer for anyone, as this is my first bike and would love to have some friends that ride.

I don't know how many were there, maybe 100 or more. My heart was thumpin' at the start. All shapes and sizes.

It was an all day deal for me, 630am depart Livonia to make 10am start at Gilmore. Ride, lunch, ride, rest a bit, depart Gilmore about 4pm, home about 7pm. 350? miles. A wonderful day. Too bad it is only once a year.

Oh yea i've been to MOTOPOW and had no idea they moved to Detroit. I'll have to check back with them to see if they're still doing thursday night rides. I am a couple miles from Woodward Ave near Royal Oak haha. I am currently trying to finish my other, 350F as we speak... so i'm a little jammed on the weekends until tuning is finished. Hopefully i'll have that bike on the road early next month at the latest. What kind of project is your 550k??

I did not know either until I tried going there to look for a part a few weeks back. I looked them up yesterday thinking that would be a good resource for you. I guess I should have followed them on social media.

You aren't far at all. I'm two blocks from Woodward and 9 Mile.

Don't be mad, but I cut the frame. I bought it rusty and neglected, so I wouldn't offend any purists. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,158382.0.html
