Vote (?) for Bike of the Month - June 2017
« on: May 16, 2017, 08:41:57 AM »
There was only one candidate so no voting this month.  Even so, we have a popular build that went through a significant evolution, earning not only a worthy nomination but the title of Bike of the Month for June 2017.  Congratulations, Chris.

Chris aka riverfever’s CB550 Squirrel
1976 550 frame with a 1971 CB500 motor

Congratulations, Chris!  You had my predetermined vote regardless who you were up against.  This build has tested you numerous times over.... you threw your hands up and walked away a couple times, but always returned and stuck with it.  I truly hope you are able to enjoy the bike for the entire summer (when it finally arrives) and many years to come!

Congrats and enjoy!

I think Chris had a large contingent of support here, and some fine electrical tutelage from Cal.  I like how resourceful Chris became -- buying and flipping a GL bike for profit and selling squirrel pelts to fund his Motogadget upgrade.

Seriously, I applaud your perseverance, Chris. I hope you get to enjoy the Squirrel this riding season and many more.  You'll now be the sage advice (and wiring guru) to those coming up.

I don't know who "hurt" who more.  Chris or the Squirrel with her electrical woes.  Chris probably had a full head of hair when the build started.  Now the Squirrel is a model for made-from-scratch Motogadget wiring.

I almost spit out some perfectly good (not at all delicious though) gluten free beer after reading my new signature about working out, catching and releasing fish and squirrels, and riding motorcycles.

Thanks a lot Don. Thank you everyone. I appreciate it.

You bet, Chris.  This build is one of my all time favorites.

I think I coined a great Instagram signature for you, too!  That and highlighting your skill in "buying and flipping a GL bike for profit and selling squirrel pelts to fund his Motogadget upgrade."

Thank you sir. I've actually been getting out a bit the last month. The Bows are doing their thing and last Friday evening they were set up in the skinny water flirting. Super fun to sit and watch the males putting in bids. I don't fish to the ones that are obviously looking to get freaky or sitting on a redd but I did have one crush a caddis larva from a deeper hole and he was beat up. A true warrior.

And don't be shy. I don't have much but you're welcome to come on out and see things. South Platte is all around me. Friends come out and I take them to different places on it for a week and they never believe it's the same river. We never even get to the reservoirs, creeks, or alpine stuff. There's just so much excellent water to explore out here.
