I like the lines on the Seca better than most of the recent origami bikes.  Round gauges from some donor Yammie and a bit of work on the tail and it would probably look kind of cool.

kind of the idea but at least it'd be visible yellow rather than dark blue.  I just may paint it yellow with one older Yammie tank badge.

round gauges would be a dramatic improvement but unless something was free it ain't happening

I have one of those tails that I got with some parts I bought and wondered what in the world it came off of.

gotta be one to buy that bike.....

New brakes came before I left for work,  install tomorrow and take an extended test ride.  I usually do a series of short rides (one ride was when the shoes came apart :-[).

Steve hasn't even been a member for 10 years yet Larry, he's just got more time on his hands than me! But I digress, it might be that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" thing, but not all BMW's of the era were ugly, I still quite like the lines of my 1989 K100RS. ;D

Gotta agree with that, nice looking Beemer you have.  More classic than transformer.

1976 CB750K - in restoration

Mike,  my Yammie can't hold a candle to that. It is UGLY, like you said hard to believe the same company made two bikes so disparate....Larry

On the plus side, rode the Seca for 20 miles today.  No problems ;D, so it is good to go save for a new paint scheme :-\ ....Larry

During the test ride today I took the Yammie up to 95 mph in second gear. My Grandmother(AKA The Little Old Lady From Pasadena) will vouch for that as she was alongside me filming the event in her 1972 Pinto four.  I plan on challenging the WildeOne to a race to see who has the fastest 350 to 400cc bike.  He was clocked doing 105 in second, I believe that with a few mods I can top that.  First, I'll paint it red--that should add 10 MPH.  Next will be a checkered flag racing stripe, should be good for another 5 MPH.  A set of clubmans to bend my cranky old body over into a more streamlined position should add yet another 5.  Cool looking pods for another 5 to 10. Total mods?  another 25 to 30 MPH.   Add some really sharp hipster pants and shirt and I'll blow the doors off his CB350f...Larry

Ha ha, well I almost bought a K1 Mike, my RS is my third "K" series BM, when I had my K1100LT I was offered a really good deal on a (very) low mileage K1 but I was too slow to jump on the deal. I don't know if they'll ever be "collectable" (i.e., valuable) but they certainly are unique. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, at least here in the U.S., they already are. I bought mine in 1994 for $7,000.- and I could have sold it several times for north of 10k. Mine has less than 10,000 miles on it.
You may find one for much less, say around $4,000.- but it would be a high mileage bike with poor cosmetics and mayb some technical issues. The ABS on these older bikes is a weak point and can get costly when needs repaired.

Yep, the one I almost bought was 10 years old and had done zero miles, I probably should have grabbed it, even though they are kinda fugly, which is why I was slow to make an offer.

Mine is a K100RS SE ABS1, and I've heard horror stories about what "can" go wrong, but even though I've been a member of arguably Australia's biggest BMW owners club since 1990 when I bought my K100RT, I've never met anyone who's ABS actually went bad? It's certainly never been a problem on my 3 "K's" or my other current BMW, my 1995 R1100GS.

I did have a dealer try to tell me that the ABS module on my K1100LT had gone bad when my front brakes wouldn't release. Basically I'd apply the front brake to slow down for a set of lights, and when I went to take off, the front brakes were locked on. If I left them for a minute or two (difficult in Sydney city traffic) they'd release again, and I could go. The dealer was quoting a couple of thousand bucks for a new module, so I had a bit of a think about it, and bought some new brake hoses, and life was good again.

It turned out the the OEM BMW brake lines were internally rotting and turning the calipers into one way valves, the pressure from the MC forced fluid and rubber mush into the calipers, but as there wasn't an equal pressure to force the "mud" back out, the caliper pistons would keep pressure on the discs after I released the brake.

I've had to reset the ABS a couple of times on my "K" bikes (to make the warning light go out) when the battery has been removed or gone flat, and occasionally I have to switch the R1100GS' engine off and back on if the ABS lights won't cancel when I ride off, but other than that, no issues, but I guess I've probably just been lucky. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I found a product by Rustoleum called Peelable Primer, supposedly enables one to prime a bike, try colors and then peel it off.  I'll let y'all(southern for youse) know when I attempt the peel away.  The primer is white and I did want to see how the Fuglyone looks in a white wedding gown so I took several photos.  Looks better than that ugly blue/purple color.

Yep that does look better Larry, I personally think that the only colour for that bike (except the colour of fire) is a nice metallic silver. Cheers, Terry. ;D

But I really want some variation of yellow, maybe with white, black or silver added.  One idea presented:

Like the old silver/gray Vision?  The Seca is quite similar to the old Vision IIRC

This might be what I settle on, with Yamaha logo decals on the front fender and top of whatever that thing hanging from the rear is called(rear air spoiler?).

Possibility, could have sold it for 1000 in the ugly blue state, probably have 500-550 into it.  Just may hold onto it though. God knows why :-\ :-X

It is a Yamaha in the fact that they can build something as good as my FJR1300 then something as fugly as that thing Sean, but it doesn't deserve Kenny blocks. I liked the silver Larry, make it shiny and move it on...... ;D
