Apparently anxiety medication may have been involved...

I could believe it.
Chris wouldn't be the first person to have that kind of "adverse reaction" to psych meds.

Incredibly sad. To arrive at a point where that's the solution. It's just awful. RIP.

Yeah, I don't get it. The only time that seems like a solution is the Aaron Hernandez deal, where he was a #$%*bag anyway and by killing himself his family will hopefully get some money. Complete polar opposite of this situation.

his wife is attributing it to an overdose of anti-anxiety medication which he was prescribed, and which suicidal thoughts is a documented side effect

Totally understand coming to the conclusion you arrived at. However, for someone suffering from a true anxiety disorder or depression (which often go hand in hand) things can spin that hard. The other concern I have is the Ativan. I'm not a big believer in meds and there are some very dangerous anti-anxiety meds out there and far too many doctors writing scripts for them. I've seen people take them and it just flattens them out and they end up not caring about anything at all and that's no way to live. I'm interested to see the toxicology reports. I don't want to jump to the conclusion that he did something that may have had a bad reaction to the Ativan (wife reports he took two that evening) but...if he was really hurting...who knows.

Really what I meant in my original comment was how incredibly sad it is for anyone (and it happens all the fawkin time) to arrive at a point where they can't make it stop. Talk therapy probably doesn't help. EMDR/brain reconfiguration therapy may not help entirely, drugs and alcohol may numb things but your body eventually needs more to have the same numbing effect. Prescription pills have their issues. And no matter what...you open your eyes the next day and, still, the feeling persists.

Believe me I know exactly what you meant. I had a friend who blew his brains out in his parents basement and wasn't on any type of anxiety or depression medication. I am on anxiety medication I tried to stop taking it once (the proper way) and was worse than before I started it. My biggest fear is the absolute unknown of death, so that's never ever crossed my mind and because I am overly empathetic, killing someone else is out of the question, although in an emergency, maybe. Indeed there are a lot of different variables, and I agree (in my mind) coming to that conclusion (suicide) doesn't even make sense. Look at Brad Delp people say he was the happiest guy, yet in the end the intent to die was unreal.

If you wish to learn some objective truths about death Steve, I've got a pretty morbid compendum of information.  Perhaps some knowing would ease your anxiety?

I know first hand how compelling the idea of suicide is when the meds backfire.  But it's not just that one thing that contributes to acting on suicide.

Irony has it, a news commentator, some counseling psych king5 interviewed.  Spoke about how addiction effects the brain and these people can't just be given more drugs while in recovery.  Yet she was a good size 60 waist line and seemed to have her own addiction too.

I was raised uber catholic but have fallen from grace.

I wish I could be religious but until children's cancer is cured god is evil.

I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic at best. Religion bothers me, but I enjoy a good service. It's very weird. I have severe envy for people that have faith not just in a god, but in a church as well. My son is living with original sin, but his moms half a Jew anyway so....

I wasn't gonna get religious but it is funny to think Chris Cornell is now happily enjoying life as a Cow  ;D

His passing hit me harder than I would have imagined.  Maybe because we were roughly the same age.  His music, and the rest of the grunge movement was the soundtrack of youth.
Soundgarden & PearlJam are still in heavy rotation in my day to day life.  A group of us 40-50 somethings holed up at are local watering hole Thursday evening and listened to Soundgarden and Chris Cornell recordings for a good 3 hours.  It helped a little.  Depression is not understood and combated enough.  Remind your people - there's always somebody out there willing to listen or help.  RIP Chris.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I was sadd at first, but then it turned more into being pissed and disappointed.
I went through my catalog and listened to a whole bunch of stuff he/they did before Badmotorfinger.
He made an S-ton of music.  Wasted it all.  >:(

The sudden death of Piotr Grudzinski (Guitarist from the Polish band Riverside) last year hit me harder.  I cried at my desk.
Guitar sounds reminiscent of David Gilmour.  Died in his sleep.  Heart failure @ 40.  Insanely talented, and they were just getting started....
