pissin' up a rope
« on: May 20, 2017, 02:47:34 PM »
as i try to tackle all the little issues with this bike it's like one step forward and two back.  i sort the clutch issue with an adjustment a couple weeks back and man it feels great afterwards taking it for a little ride.  clutch feels smooth and reliable.  today, after the bike sitting for a week or so while trying to sort these electrical issues, i decide i'll put the headlight back in and take it for a spin.  pull up to a stop sign and drop it in first, twist the throttle a bit with my hand fully squeezing the clutch lever and the bike surges forward as if the lever isn't fully pulled in.  my timing seemed way off this morning too.  got it closer but it's not right.  some days it makes you want to throw in the towel.

I can relate to that. Picked up a towel many of times myself.

Don't.  You can buy a new bike and skip all this if you want, but I just broke the needle off a speedo while trying to remove the face for a replacement.  Stuff happens.  If you want a classic, you have to play the cards you were dealt.  I think my head gasket is leaking, but I also fixed my ignition switch and I'm stoked to have one key for my bike!  Two steps forward, one back?  Onward!

It's not a sprint.  It's a marathon.

Patience, perseverance, persistence.   Some say that passion belongs associated, as well.  But, I find that plodding also plays a part toward having a machine that can't refuse to operate as desired.

I can tell you that I have stepped back (different than walking away) many times with stubborn problems.  Sometimes, it gives you a chance to reformulate a more effective action plan.  Sometimes I awake in the morning and say "well, of course".  And, walk out and fix the problem.  The subconscious mind works even while you sleep.

Some puzzles are harder to put together than others.  But, isn't a hobby's primary purpose is to waste time in a interesting way and even learn new things?

Bombermann, that #$%* is played.  OP, some folks are just better off paying a good mechanic.

I feel your pain, but don't give up, anybody can ride a new bike!  When I broke the needle off a speedo, After i finished cursing myself i called it tuition spent.  When I fixed the loose contacts on an ignition switch, i called it a $50 thrill.  The trick is to have a bike you can ride while you fix the other one, so get another just like the one you are fixing so the parts are interchangeable!  Good luck and may you experience more thrills than tuitions.

See, like everyone says, just stay at it. Somehow it comes to you.
