Anybody had a go at this? Without taking them apart? I'd like to paint mine but I'm concerned about the insides

Yeah, probably not a good idea to drill the rivets out, but if you don't think you can get the paint in, get them powder coated, the powder is attracted to the metal by an electrical current, so more chance of it getting it into all the nooks and crannies.

I'm going to encourage the use of powdercoating for wheels.
Because rattlecan won't last long there.

I did, but I was looking at the menu for exhaust coatings.  Might send trash can's pipes there after the supertrapps are mated and tuned by my buddies hotrod shop.  Totally affordable.

A different friend had her wheels powdercoated here in tumwater.  I think it cost her around $150 for the pair.  It was a fair price considering what it would take to diy rattle can your own wheels.  But you can't get pc's durability from a spray bomb.

A friend of mine had his beemer wheels PCd in Wenatchee. I think it was about a $150 but that included mounting new tires if I remember right but I'll check with him to make sure. I may just take my comstars over there this winter and have them done.

I've got several Henry Abe wheels here that were painted/polished in the factory, and the paint has mostly been rejected by the sandcast alloy process over the last 40 years or so. I've tried 2 different brands of paint stripper to remove the black paint between the cast spokes, and while I've removed the bulk of it, that which remains is letting them down, so I think I'll just get them blasted and powder coated a shiny silver color. Or paint over the old paint. I can't decide.

I did mine with etching primer and appliance epoxy will see how they hold up haven't got the bike on the road yet but have heard that others on a v star form has had good luck. if it chip easy touch up.

Those look fantastic Scott, I still think they're the best looking aftermarket wheels you can put on a CB750, and the Japanese guys love them, I bought my first set for $300 AUD and sold them for $1100 USD (he made the offer) plus shipping to Japan. I was still pissed with myself for selling them though, so stoked when I found 3 (1 x 19" front, 1 x 18" rear and 1 x 16" rear) for under $400 a few months ago. I think I'll get mine powdercoated gloss silver and not bother polishing them, even though yours look fantastic. If you find another 19" front let me know, I'd like to have a set on both my CB750's!Cheers, Terry.
