Really?   If you have it, keep the clutch safety switch, it may save the bike from going down one day.

Can you please elaborate?

Say the bike is setting on the sidestand, you are standing beside it and want to start the bike up.  If you hit the starter switch and the bike is in gear, it will lurch forward and if you are not holding on tight, it could fall over.

That can happen even if you are sitting on the bike. Just ill-prepared to catch it before it lurches over.

Thanks for the explanation.

I have made it a habit of starting the bike while in neutral to avoid doing that.

Update: I was able to score a repro tank and sides and have sent them out to Petesponies to be painted in the Honda metallic planet blue scheme. Very excited to see the results!

Hi there, not sure if you've done the oil pressure switch yet, but if not, PLEASE LEARN FROM MY HORRIBLE MISTAKE:

I have a K4 as well, and had the same issue as you. The oil pressure light would pop on at idle once hot, but my pressure gauge was showing more than adequate numbers (I did Elan's pump rebuild, etc). My old pressure switch threaded into the case until it was flush. I ordered a replacement online and it had a different TAPER, as a result as I threaded it in, it acted like a wedge and it cracked my engine case. Oil poured through the crack in the main oil galley. I ended up having to source a new engine as two attempts at welding it failed.

There is a torque spec for that switch, and a specific thread pitch and taper required. I have no clue what it is off hand, but be sure to check.

Thanks for the heads up. I also got my OPS from Elan so it went in without any trouble.

Hi all,

I'm confused about the style of the seven-fifty-four badge that go on the side covers for a 1974 cb750. From pictures of complete '74 cb750's, I see that the rectangle badges are used (as in the upper pic), but I have not been able to find repro side covers that take the square badge. Many of the side covers I find that are advertised as "72-76" only take the cursive badge (below pic)???

Can someone clarify this for me, please?

I believe the mounting pins match up, and the rectangle badge just covers the indent for the earlier cursive badge.  I am not totally sure about this.  Have not played with k3-k6 parts much in a long time.  Hopefully someone will be along to confirm or deny.

Sean is correct, the side cover will accept either badge.

Thanks Sean and Stev-o.

Got the tank and sides back from Pete and they are fabulous. I got to work and put everything together. Excited to share some pictures tomorrow.

Here she is- with new tank and side covers- what a dramatic difference!

Pete did a fabulous job with the tank and sides. On another thread that's long since been locked, there was some concern about the amount of metallic used in the paint and how much bling it should or should not have.

I did a side by side comparison with the old OEM tank (also a planet blue metallic), and the amount of metallic in both paint was virtually identical.

No sunshine today so I didn't do a closeup of the tank. I'll do it once we see the sun again, and do a side by side.

Now that I'm using the OEM petcock (2 to 2 nipples), I've upset the delicate balance of the carbs- it's running way too rich now.

Looks like the carbs are going to have to come off for needle and jet adjustments (as well as cleaning).

Below was the old fuel line setup used with a 1975 tank.

Well, I'm starting to see the dark side to restoring a bike to OEM.... once you restore one part to pristine condition, the rest of the bike immediately looks like crap and your to-do list just grows exponentially  :'(

So I've sent out my carbs to harisuluv to be restored, and I'll be getting new boots, and reconditioning the airbox. I have started looking into methods on how to restore an airbox, and it looks like I'll be getting mothers back to black.

Has something happened to James Hale (harisuluv)? I've been sending him emails and otherwise trying to reach him to ask about the status of my carbs.

Does someone on here have his phone number, and can they check in to see if everything is ok with him?

Well it's now April, and James Hale still has my carbs and the $350 I sent him to restore them.  I have sent many emails, DM's, and made several calls, and sent a certified letter. All  of which were ignored.

I'm going to try one last time. If there is anyone out there who can talk to him directly, please inform him to communicate with me ASAP. I don't know what has happened to him but I'm trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt.
