Hello, just wanted to say hi - I picked up a 78 cb750 a couple weeks ago. It doesn't run and needs a ton of work, but it will be a fun project to work on. I've stripped it down to the frame and am detabbing it and then I'll have everything powdercoated. I'm sure I'll ask a bunch of questions, thanks to all in advance!

Welcome from NE MN.  Where you able to turn the motor over with the kickstart before you tore the  bike down?

I traded for the bike and it was already apart. The owner said it was knocking and he pulled it apart and was going to rebuild it, but decided it was more than he wanted to do.

When I looked at it the oil filter had metal shavings in it and the 4th piston can be wiggled up and down - the others are all tight like they should be. The valve cover also has an odd hole where the oil enters it - the timing chain didn't break so I don't show what could have caused it. Here's a pic:

Your not the first to do so nor will you be the last.

 It does give us more info on the condition of the bike.  You might as well start a project thread since you will be diving in deep.
