Recommendations needed: brat hoop and seat for 750k
« on: May 17, 2017, 08:28:34 PM »
Not long ago I posted on this forum a request for a brat seat that did not require mods to the frame, however now I'm more committed to the brat idea and I'm willing to cut the rear of the frame and install a hoop.  But I'd still rather install a pre-made brat style seat without the need to fabricate a pan, foam, upholster, etc.

Any recommendations on a hoop and compatible seat? Preferably brown and willing to use vinyl and other fake leathers to keep cost down.

Thanks!

Are you limiting rear suspension travel so it won't hit the seat undersides?

I was hoping I wouldn't have to.  Aren't some loops upturned for this reason?

Looking for something like the one in this pic

With stock length shocks and a seat hoop - even with an upturn unless you turn up immediately after the shock mounts - the tire will hit the bottom of the seat pan under full compression most likely.

Remove the spring from your shocks and see how much clearance you need to the hoop.I had to install 1" longer shocks on my bike when i added a hoop.

FWIW i found it better to weld the hoop where i wanted it and make my own seat pan. Then i took it to a local guy to upholster. You get a much nicer seat if you do it that way imo.

Thanks Tyler.  I'll certainly consider rubbing issues when I go ahead with this.

I'm really just hoping not to have to mess about with fabbing my own pan.  Surely with such a large aftermarket for these bikes there is a simple way to achieve a look similar to the one in my photo above?

I have seen the dime city cycles one but the seat doesn't look very substantial.  It looks very narrow, sitting between the frame rails and not on top of them.

Anyone got one of these?:  https://www.ebay.com/p/?iid=172597344290&&&chn=ps

Is is a simple case of cut the frame, install the hoop, and drill holes for the bolts I see underneath the seat?

This has the look I'm interested in and seems to turn up enough to avoid contact at the rear.

I thought this site was full of them

There may have been.  But, I think the flippers sold them off and moved on to cutting up different bikes.

Just a guess, mind you.

I just ordered this one. Not so much a brat seat but low profile. This one will actually fit over the frame rails but the rear fender bump has to be removed. Got from Texavina.

I'd prefer the low-profile seat to the brat-style (not very comfortable at all).

the brats I have ridden...well, they sucked.  Why anyone would want to pay money and do work to make their bike suck is beyond me.  I suggest turning off the internet and go ride some good motorcycles.

Yeah that's my ebay listing.  I can also make them in diamond stitch or real leather.  I also make them with an extra layer of foam compared to normal so it's a little more confortable (as pictured).

I'll also give members free shipping.

I agree wt the brat seat being ass uncomfortable (personally) Kinda like folks running club man bars and no rear sets. I couldn't do it personally...if it works for someone cool but looking cool only goes so far. Enjoying the ride will kee ya soul happy. Kinda like drag bars and forwarded controls...looks good for 10 miles.
