Hi Harald,

For 'normal' use the bike doesn't need a oilcooler. The temperature range in Denmark is compatible with the Netherlands. If you use a full fairing or 'work' the engine you might need one. But even then a small one is sufficient enough. I use a small Mocal cooler on my full faired Japauto. With the larger oiltank should do the trick.

that's stock.

I'd imagine a real oil cooler would work much better.

Yeah I was about to say that is the stock piece from an F2. You don't see them often because they run afoul of most aftermarket exhaust systems. Obviously honda thought it did something as they put it on as a "bad aid" measure for the hotter 77-78F bikes.

I hope you didn't spend a lot on that one, the last two I got were free.

oil lines from cooler adapter
« Reply #353 on: April 20, 2008, 05:51:00 PM »
Most CB750's that I've seen have the adapter turned so that the oil lines point up into the oil radiator. I'm wondering if there will be a problem with putting the adapter on with the lines facing down with elbow fittings pointing outward and then up to the cooler?

I've just machined up a sexy new "top flo" oil cooler adapter for use with spin on filters for our SOHC4 bikes this weekend, I'll post a couple of pics tonight when I get home.

I threw away my Honda CB750F2 "Factory" oil cooler long ago as a bad joke, I doubt if it did anything usefull at all. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Going to have a full fairing on the bike when she hits the road, might a little cooling help.
Cheers mate

Nice work with the spin on / oil cooler adapter.  Ever think about engineering a thermostat into the adapter?

G'Day mate, yeah, I've thought about it, but decided that it was too tricky, and as you can buy in-line thermostatic bypass valves from Lockhart, I didn't bother to proceed with it.

I've seen an old cast adapter from Derale that had a thermostat fitted, but I don't know how well it worked.

Good thing with this type of cooler is that it takes less than 30 minutes to install or remove it, so when it gets cold, I could just take mine off if I didn't already have the Lockhart in-line 'stat. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hi Terry,

This is how I did the spin-on. Use the filter of the 750VFR. No connection for a cooler 'cause placed the cooler in line with the oiltank.

cheers, Rob

oil cooler under motor
« Reply #369 on: May 29, 2008, 05:55:38 PM »
Has anybody ever mounted an oil cooler under the motor? Is there a problem with creating an oil trap? Does the oil still flow?

Thanks, Matt

Like flat under the motor?

How would the air flow thru it?

I realize that the cooling performance would decrease but it's still going to cool better than none at all.

I was more concerned about the cooler being lower than the pump.

It's just that I'm geeting closer to finishing the bike and I'm starting to think ahead. I don't even have the cooler yet.......been keeping my eyes open for someting that would fit this. I have a Thermo-chem adapter but the lines come out of the top and I can see where there might be a fitment problem with the oil lines.

You know with all that tube under the triple trees...perhaps a pair of those finned coolers you see on harleys?

Basically a tube with fins ...two of them...one on each downtube?

Matt, since the cooler would be facing the wrong way for airflow, you'd have to create a metal air diverter. But, I think the greatest problem is the danger of punching a hole in the cooler, coating your rear tire or/and grenading the motor.

Mounted to the front of the rear fender, possibly. Mounted atop the rear fender (Egli-style), effective but ugly. Mounted underneath a low engine... too potentially scarey to be priceless.  Just MHO, of course.   RR
