Nothing I know either. Can you cut off the cooler barb ends and drill/tap for A/N fittings?

Bah you beat me to it...

Depending on the brand of cooler that shouldn't be a problem. We do it on sleds all the time.

Well, I don't know.  It's a Lockhart cooler, and looks like it's medium-duty tubing coming out the side, and I don't see any way of modifying this to a threaded fitting of any knid.  Maybe I'll try to design something of my own.  :-\

I use this setup, DOHC cooler and my own adaptor and adapted fittings.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Does anyone have technical drawings which include dimensions of these "AN" fittings?  I'd need info on the physical design of these things so I could work on designing something to suit.  A link to a website or something like that would be helpful.  TIA!

AN fittings are fittings from Aeroquip, Earls, ect. They have a 37deg flare with straight threads, which is aircraft spec. A standard pluming style flare is 45deg. You can find AN fittings at any performance automotive site, like Jegs or Summit Racing.

thanks MRieck, i was hoping you post on this thread, i read your post on these coolers from sometime in 05. i am considering the "narrow" version also, the "wide" version seems like it would stick out the sides way to far,
are those AN6 lines? what type of adapter plate are you using? thermostat?

if the stock oil lines are 1/2" id (approx an-10) do the an-6 lines create a restriction in the system? or is there a bypass somewhere?
any thoughts on the quality of those ebay coolers?

I have never seen those CX units. I didn't want to much oil going to the cooler especially with my set up. The CR set up would certianly benefit from larger lines.

Hi Mike,

How large is your by-pass, presume you have drilled the adaptor?  I have a 5 m/m (7/32")hole drilled in my adaptor as a by-pass

thats interesting, how do you determine what size hole you need?.........any pics?
if you dont drill your adapter plate does that mean your total oil volume will be flowing through the cooler?

Imo it will, all the oil that normally runs through the filter will first run through the cooler. By drilling a by-pass hole a certain amount will run through the filter without being cooled.

oil cooler on return line to tank?
« Reply #821 on: February 21, 2009, 07:13:28 AM »
Has anyone ever tried to plumb an oil cooler into the return line from the engine to the oil tank? How about into the oil line from the oil tank to the engine? Anybody know of the benefits? I know space will be an issue, I'm just trying to see if it would be worth it, other than being different.

Scroll down to third picture. Then click on it for more closeups of the plumbing.
many people here have done it. I hope they pipe up as i'd like them to review the idea as well. Others I've seen take the hoses up over the top of the engine into a cooler with the spigots on top.

Hi there. You do not want to tie in the feed line from tank to engine to your cooler. This is a gravity feed line and will not function as intended.   Rock On

« Reply #824 on: April 21, 2009, 07:50:06 PM »
i am aware of the ongoing debate concerning the use of oil coolers, however i would like to know from those of you who choose to run them whether or not you also run a thermostat, the reason you do or dont and if you do what temp is it set for
                                                         thanks
