Counterfeit!
« on: May 25, 2017, 12:30:05 PM »
Recently I visited Canada to attend a funeral of my last remaining aunt. She was 98 years old and had many siblings etc etc.
On the way back to the USA i stopped to get more gas and drinks presenting the counter person (a young girl) with a Canadian $10.00 and $1.00 paper bills. It was taking a long time for her to make change as she immediately got on the telephone....people behind me were asking what the problem was.

Finally she responded to the guy behind me (not dressed in a suit and tie like me) and said she was calling the Canadian Mounted Police as I was trying to pass a fake bill! The guy pulls out a $1.00 and $2.00 Canadian bills and says, "Do these look fake? They are still valid currency in Canada."

Seems she had never seen $1.00 and $2.00 Canadian bills. just the coins.

As of today, I am still not in jail.  ::)

yet.

I've had to call in a phony US $50 before.  It was a washed out $5.
The sheriff is actually rather sympathetic towards people who sit and wait for him to show up.  Counterfeiting effects everybody who accepts the bill.  1 counterfeiter can effect a half a dozen people sometimes.

The last Canadian one dollar bill was printed in April 1989 and the last 2 dollar bill in 1996. They're certainly rare and some of the younger kids may have never set eyes on them but they still exist and are legal currency. If you want to have fun try passing a 3 dollar bill.   ;D

The truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.  I heard the same story here in the use with a kid paying for his school lunch with a $2 bill.  I am usually understanding toward the younger generation, but there are so many things they us older folks take for granted they are clueless about.

Threadjack Alert.

How about "spocking" the Canadian fivers? You heard of that? I hear it is really pissing off their treasury department. I think it's hilarious.

Wife goes to the bank daily! Often asks for any 2$ bills around. She probably has 100$ worth in her car! usually 90+% of the time they are in minty condition! She likes to spend them to! thrift shops especially!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

The Spock fin is hilarious...reminds me of Vulcan Alberta..a town that has gone mad over Star Wars..
I think there used to be a trick, where you folded a bill a certain way, and it would look like the Queen had Devil horns.

People were doing something similar sketching Prince's face on currency after he passed.

$2 bills are still fairly available at banks.

I have a stack of old US bills and a cup with old/odd coins. I keep any old or odd currency as maybe it'll be worth something to collectors some day. If not, I'll have fun when I'm old and senile confusing the kids at stores... Or maybe get arrested apparently.
