Jetting Reccomendations for my 550 build
« on: April 29, 2017, 06:29:54 AM »
Looking for some baseline jetting reccomendations for my 74 Cb550 with 022a carbs.

Motor mods:
61mm Dynoman 10.5:1 Pistons
Webcams 358b camshaft
Stage 2 Porting by Mike Rieck w/ 1mm oversized intake valves
Dynatech electronic ignition
Delkevich 4-1 Stainless Exhaust
Uni Pod filters

Anyone out there with a similar set up?

Thanks fellas

When you mention filter(s) I expect those are individuals? As a suggestion to start off...I had one with PD carbs that needed 107.5 mainjets instead of 90's. The air filters may have an effect here. Also raise the needles 1 notch. I had to run a tapered jet reamer to enlarge the pilot jet. (stumbled off idle) Again this may have been due to the leaner PD's though.

Have new plugs when it's time for a plug chop.

what brent said. and find your main jet first, preferably on a dyno, resisting the urge to play with needles or anything else to get "good resposne",
or in other words: only WOT runs till you find main jet for best max power, ONLY then start messing around with needles, etc.

If they are Unipods, are you oiling them?

Are you using any form of 'stacks' with the Unipods?

Yes.  The original connection between the carbs and stock air box are in fact short stacks.  You need to 'smooth' the air flow entering the carb or you will get uneven air flow.  This gives inconsistent fuel mix, leading to drivability issues.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking into using some silicone couplers as stacks, like these:
