Here we go! Just finished watching the time trials and the field is set. Going to be one heck of a race next Sunday.

Watched it too, Dixon's run at 232 mph was incredible!   I'm sure you saw Bourdais' crash too....

Alonzo did great in qualifying but the race will be a different story. Racing 200 mph with 32 other cars in a pack on an oval is something he has never done. I wish him the best but will not be easy to get a good result.

I was watching qualifying but us Indiana residents wont be able to watch the race itself live. Last year was the only time in who knows how long that it was televised live in Indiana and that was only because it was sold out being it was the 100th running or anniversary.

I've been to it twice, quite an event! 

According to this, Mears won in '79, '84 & '88...

I think Mears won when I was there too!  I went with a group including my girlfriend at the time, we camped the entire weekend in the infield...fun!

Last time I was there was around 25 maybe 27 years ago during qualifying the year before the track shut down the "snake pit". The highlight of the whole day was meeting Smokey Yunick and getting my picture taken with him along the pit wall, I was so shell shocked at meeting him that I couldn't get a word out of my mouth without tripping over my tongue.

With all the problems Honda has been having with its F1 engine I can only imagine how Alonso felt when the Honda in his Indy car failed him too.

Three of them blown today. Alonso had a pretty good shot at a podium, and a win. Shame to see him go down like that at the end. He certainly didn't look like a rookie.

 When you take a highly tuned engine like that and add 10 HP things can go south more often. But, some of them didn't break.

On the other hand Chevrolet didn't have enough. Couldn't catch him on the last few laps.

Question:

Is it customary on the parade lap with the car owner and the winner to fly a flag of the winners Country on the car? I don't remember that in the past.

I didn't like what I saw but I will leave it at that.

Alonso definitely did well, how well he could've finished is anyone's guess but he was definitely trying to move forward before his engine let go. I remember years ago when Nigel Mansell took a shot at Indy and was doing well but was taken out by a complete rookie in the pit entrance road.

I don't recall seeing that in the past but no big deal.  One of his team mates (big white guy) handed him the flag during the post race interview.   

He drove a great race and deserved the win.  Andretti is on a roll at Indy. 


Dixon is one lucky guy.  To be able to walk away from a wreck like that is miraculous.
