Exhaust joint nut torque question
« on: May 30, 2017, 06:54:46 PM »
How tight should the eight 6mm exhaust joint nuts be tightened? Also, on my bike they are chrome acorn nuts but the docs seem to indicate they are hex nuts. My 350 & 175 have hex nuts. I must admit the chrome acorn nuts look rather nice. I couldn't find any mention of a torque value in the shop manual.

All 6mm bolts are a torque value of 8-10ft/lbs. Basically, a firm handshake. No more.

With those nuts the threads may bottom out against the domes before they're tight? - might need extra washers, like a plain and a spring washer on each stud. If you have new copper crush gaskets, tighten until they're just fully crushed only. Then recheck tightness after a few rides.
