Nominate for Bike of the Month July 2017
« on: June 01, 2017, 03:05:15 PM »
It's a brand new month!  With riverfever's walk-off home run last month, I suspect there are more than a few bikes worthy of a nomination!

To prime the pump, I nominate Scott S' 1973 CB500 Restomod (proposed nickname Quicksilver)
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,161158.0.html

1975 CB550K1 "Blue" Stockish Restomod (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=135005.0)
1975 CB550F1 frame/CB650 engine hybrid "The Hot Mess" (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,150220.0.html)
2008 Triumph Thruxton (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,190956.0.html)
2014 MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 800
2015 Yamaha FZ-09 (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,186861.0.html)

OK guys, we're not going to have a one horse race this month.
Here's my nomination but I'm still having problems with pictures Don, perhaps you can jump in and help as I know you have been following this build.
With the 750s, most seem to favor the early Ks but here is an F2 that is mega special.
Like the bike of Russ Collins that won in April, you could call it a sleeper and this one is a real sleeper.
Being just over 2 years in the build, this bike of our friend FrodeF2 in Norway is really something to behold.
There's a nice pic of the finished bike just over half way down this page Don if you can do the honors and post it for me please.

This is the summary for my 1976 Cb750 F1.

I have so many forum members to thank for assisting me with this build. Not all for direct assistance, but to be able to read what other builders  and restorers are thinking. It has been a great help.
Also to have forum members stop you, when you are about to do sometning stupid.

Most of the engine internals have been sourced from Mike Rieck. (Billet Block, Crank, Rods, main and rod bearings, completly "refurbished" head, carburetors, main and head studs, cam and primary chains and tensioners.)
Gearbox is a undercut part from CycleX.
All new ball bearings sourced from a local supplier (Abra Kulegalgesenteret AS in norway) All SKF bearings. (bearing info sourced from HondaMan's book.
Generator system upgrade sourced from forum member: Anders228 (excelent quality)
Exhaust and swingarm purchased from Motogpwerks. Swingarm was for a DOHC 750f,  modified to fit in the frame of the SOHC.
Fork was taken from my Ducati.
Completely new wiring, with Motogadget fusebox and Motogadget RPM speedo.
Front and Rear rim, bought from buchannans. 5.50x18" rear and 2.50x19" front. Laced to the stock hubs
Front brake rotor and calliper from a ducati 998 (given to me by my ducati dealer)
Oil pump refurbishing kit sourced from forum member: Elan

Advice on leak free assembly: brandEn's fantastic summary post. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=107040.0
Mike Rieck: for ansvering my email's and letting me know when i'm about to do something stupid.  ;D

Beautiful.  I wonder how your new/old literbike does up against the Ducati Sport Classic (gorgeous).

Which number of ___ is your billet block?

That Anders upgrade looks amazing, too.

I gladly accept.  Although, the middle of the rims (spoke beds) are black.  ;D

Dang it! I'll never win one of these if ya'll keep nominating great bikes like those!

I found out about my bike at breakfast one morning years ago. I was on my '78 and a guy came up to me. After exchanging numbers and actually going to look at the bike, it was probably another three years before I was able to actually buy it. Time was not kind to it. It sat in a leaky, mosquito infested shed since 1981, the year his daughter was born. Eventually, code enforcement came down on his property and he called me, ready to sell. This is "As Found".

I stripped the bike down to the bare frame and rebuilt the top end of a spare CB550 engine I had. Some porting and polishing, oversize valves, CB650 cam, some vapor blasting, some coatings, and the piece de resistance, the exhaust. I contacted the Benelli Club of Spain after doing some internet searching for the sexy, curved factory race style exhaust. They agreed to make a set for me.

Did an R6 front end swap, modified the triple tree for risers (using all Honda parts... CB350 riser, CB400F bars, Goldwing brake line splitter, etc.) and modified the Lester mags.

Designed my own Speedhut gauge face.

Installed an NOS seat, modified CB400F footpegs and brake lever, 550F kicker. Based the paint scheme on a Japanese market CB750 color scheme. Used stock style but smaller turn signals and tail light (which is actually a CL350 unit i had chromed) and went for the subtle look.

yeah scott, we are both screwed  ;)
looked like a 550 with benelli pipes shootout at first, now we can try to not come in last, after these trick 750s. anyway, i'll add a write-up when back from the greek islands.

Hey guys, it's not everyone that likes super fast 750s, there are plenty of people that are fans of the smaller bikes.
Good luck Scott and Flatlander.

When I first went to look at the bike I tried to open the gas cap and the top of the tank moved in a way that just wasn't natural. Did the "plunka-plunka" sound like when you push on a beer can! When I went back years later, it had given way and was half full of old rain water, ancient gas and mosquito larvae.
This guy is a major hoarder. Every out building was stacked to the rafters with junk. He had some big block For and Mopar engines and old cars. They were heading towards the same fate. I truly believe that if code enforcement hadn't gotten on him, he would have kept it all until he died and it all returned to the earth.

This sounds like a scene out of a hording show or American Pickers.

Great find, Scott.  I can't believe that mosquitos can breed in gasoline.   :o

That's an indication/reminder to me to spend extra time on the top/inside of tanks when I clean/prep them as I imagine the inside of many tanks are very rusty up top;I imagine some of that is from the moist night/morning air/dew settling on the tops of the fuel tanks on bikes when they're parked outside and it's not full enough to soak-up that condensation..
