Actually, I think they foresaw potential circumstances that most of us ignore, miss, or disregard and crafted the Constituion exactly in a way that its more relevant than most realize.

You can NOT legislate morality. Jerks, pricks and evil doers will always exist and use whatever tool they require to float their boat.

I think you are confusing ethics with morality. Legislate morality and you become the Taliban or the Inquisition.

I think it is you who is confused. Ethics require moral principles as a basis, they can not be separately defined without that reliance. And you still can't legislate it from either side of the ideological aisle.

Ethics and morals relate to “right” and “wrong” conduct. While they are sometimes used interchangeably, they are different: ethics refer to rules provided by an external source, e.g., codes of conduct in workplaces or principles in religions. Morals refer to an individual’s own principles regarding right and wrong.
