I think Bobby said it best so far:
While I have no wish to kill anyone. If I can take the shot i will take it. There is no doubt about that.

+2 on that.

Terry, if you lived in this country I bet it wouldn't take long for you to equip yourself with a concealable hand gun, especially on a motorcycle road trip. Unless of course you live where I live, we don't have rights in this state, which makes me want the right to carry even more. I have to keep my piece locked and sealed until I cross the boarder into PA, where helmets also become optional.

As far as schools go, my 6 year old son goes to a public school with retired officers working security. None of them have a gun but they all should. We had a family/student picnic outside and I was thinking, "Christ these guys are walking around patrolling without firearms while we sit here and have lunch with a hundred children. This is a psychopaths dream come true." When I was in high school we ALWAYS had an armed police officer inside the entrance.

Anyway, thanks to this forum for keeping the 1st amendment in mind. There are other forums that shut this #$%* down almost immediately or at any sign of conflict. ***Cough dtt cough*** bunch of pansy hurt feelings going on over there. Just saying.

When I was in elementary school, there were no police or guards. We did have drills for nuclear bomb attacks, though. The principle would set off an air-horn outside the classroom, which was the signal to climb under your desk with your arms over your face, away from the windows. Basically the equivalent of put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. :o ::)
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

You know I've been over this and in my opinion it's an interesting social experiment that you are distilling out I won't be around to see the end of it which I think is a shame but we Canada are also in the throws of an experiment as well which once again I won't be here for the conclusion of, what I see is you guys, the Americans can't bear not to proselytize about it, I'm not sure why, is it because you are seeking justification ? I personally don't want to live in a place where I have to pack period. But I don't see Canadians trying to tell you with Hollywood style media assaults that our experiment is better than yours. So in my opinion stop with the BS that guns will or wont solve societies ills, keep it to your selves until it's sorted.

I agree, I don't want to live in a society where I need to carry.

The problem right now is that you don't need a gun until you need a gun.

Just like you don't need a screwdriver until you need a screwdriver.

I'd rather have one on hand, than go without one at all.

That's really sad, equating packing heat with packing a screwdriver. Jesus.
What a sad, sad place we have arrived at here.

A weapon is a tool nothing more nothing less it's the #$%* that has it that's the problem, if your fathers of the constitution (sorry it's been a tough couple of days) could see what's going on now do you think they would have written it the same way, I don't think so, I think that because they were intelligent people, they expected the citizenry would Think and correct themselves, unfortunately they couldn't see evolution going both ways.Bill the demon.

That was my point Bill. It is a tool. A tool I'd rather have when needed than not have if needed.

Actually, I think they foresaw potential circumstances that most of us ignore, miss, or disregard and crafted the Constituion exactly in a way that its more relevant than most realize.

You can NOT legislate morality. Jerks, pricks and evil doers will always exist and use whatever tool they require to float their boat.

And yet the evangelical whackadoos legislate morality on a daily basis in this country.

Once again it's been a trying time lately, otherwise I would have kept up, yeah the wackadoos always try to shoehorn people into their vision of the box. What to do, I think laughter hurts more than shooting them, anyhow maybe more when I feel decent

Which ones - the evangelical whackadoos on the left or the whackadoos on the right?  Either way it's the same thing - just a different color.

I think you are confusing ethics with morality. Legislate morality and you become the Taliban or the Inquisition.

I think it is you who is confused. Ethics require moral principles as a basis, they can not be separately defined without that reliance. And you still can't legislate it from either side of the ideological aisle.

Ethics and morals relate to “right” and “wrong” conduct. While they are sometimes used interchangeably, they are different: ethics refer to rules provided by an external source, e.g., codes of conduct in workplaces or principles in religions. Morals refer to an individual’s own principles regarding right and wrong.
