D@&n mice
« on: June 02, 2017, 05:17:49 PM »
I store my bike in a zip up bag with silica gel bags and bullfrog antirust sheets. Problem is, mice have been getting in the bag snd causing me headaches. A couple of years ago they pullrd the foam from my seat to make a nest. Tried the bounce dryer sheets, made a nest out of them too. I think I found a cure: mint oil! No more mice. No droppings. Nothing. Advice from a friend; a few drops on cotton balls scattered about and no more mice!!

Where do you buy mint oil?  Sounds like a neat idea

The ones in my crawl space were living in a big D-con box. Old school trap did the job. Oh, and I despise mice. I bought a couple barn find bikes serious damage in seats, unsealed engines and exhausts.

 Thanks for the tip.

I use a 5 gallon pail. Drill 2 half inch hole through the diameter on the top lip. Get a soda can and drill a half in hole in the bottom center of can. Put a .25 or .375 rod through the holes in top
Of pail with  the soda can lining up over can. Make sure the can spins on rod. Put peanut butter on can. A dime size will do. Put gallon of used anti freeze in pail. Make a ramp out of cardboard going to top of pail. The mouse goes up the ramp crosses the rod  steps on can, it spins, mouse falls in. Works well.

I did a similar thing. I turned a cylinder on my wood lathe, with a screw on each end to attach to the bucket. It catches lots of mice, but apparently not all of them. Little buggers ate through the coil wire on my rototiller twice, once on my tractor.

They get in the crazy places. Build nests inside car heater plenums and get trapped when engine is started and plenum door closes, and die there. The nest usually gets
wound up in the blower cage which in turn, no longer moves any air out the vents.
A nasty, dirty repair.  >:(

Toyota dealer charged $5600. Not a typo. To demouse my 2012 Camry. Removed the interior  dash, door panels, roof liner, found remains of 4 mice. It's become a cash cow for Toyota. The dealer has one mechanic devoted to mice removal. Insurance paid 100 percent. The wiring harnesses supposedly have soy in the wire wrap

I parked a bike for the winter in a garden shed that also contained a part bag of grass seed... bad combination. Once the seeds ran out the mousies started eating anything they could chew. In the spring all accessible (to a mouse... they can fit though a 1/4" gap) wiring was bare copper with tooth marks. The spark plug wires really looked silly. Seat and grips badly chewed up. Even the cover bumper grommets were gnawed at. At least the dead ones were gone... the remaining family members ate them up. If you put out traps, it's common to find a trapped mouse half eaten. There were still some (temporary) survivors in the spring, nesting in some old shoes in a box.
