Lighter pistons for 350 Four
« on: June 08, 2017, 12:37:40 PM »
I'm going to make a total rebuild on a 350 Four engine this winter.
I'm looking for some lighter pistons. Does anyone know if  such a thing exist?

I am willing to go a long way for this. Changing the crankpin bush to accommodate non Honda pistons or making new and lighter conrods is not out of the question.
It is going to be fitted with a compressor and new harder cams and a injection system.

Please let me know if you know if racepistons is made.

Pete

Have a set of custom Carrillo A beams made if you are serious about light (and strong)...the tool steel bolts are more than enough. I have had 400's bored so pistons are out there.

Wiseco will build new lighter pistons and gives you the chance to design the dome, etc. However they have a 12 piece minimum order. You might try some of the other manufacturers.

Hi Pete,
You might consider boring the cylinders to 54.5 mm (466 cc) and using the Yoshimura piston kit. I'll have to check my notes but I believe this is a 9.6:1 compression ratio.

Also, as an alternative to the Carrillo connecting rods you could go with Robson Engineering connecting rods. They are just as good and are mfd in the UK. I'm guessing that you are on that side of the pond.

The Yoshimura pistons are 13mm wrist pin bushings, and the Robson or Carrillo rods are made to your specifications. I have both and they are equal in quality.

Sounds like a very cool bike you are building, I hope to see pictures. Maybe you could start a thread in the "Project Shop" forum so we can watch the progress.

KEVIN
I cannot really do that. The liners in my cylinder is roughly 54.4 mm in diameter. So I would have to drill out the liners, bore the cylinder and install new liners.
And the new liners are going to be paperthin in order to fit the cylinder.

But thank you for your reply.

Any other suggestions? Pistons does not have to be Honda. Just in the range of 48 to 51 mm. Im willing to make new conrods to compensate for different piston crown size.

there's a huge market for small pistons for racing minibikes. try looking into akunar's online catalog, but there are many others.

you could try talking with hansen honda team, they put together a 350 "replica" thing.
