Sprung a leak! Gas tank pinhole...
« on: June 11, 2017, 06:51:43 PM »
Wheeled my 76 550F out of the garage for a Sunday evening spin and wouldn't you know it - a tiny stream of gas spilling out of the side said "no cruising today!". At least she's house broken and waited to be outside. Joking aside, i feel foolish for not recognizing what i had perceived as just a nick in the clear and subsequent surface rust for something worse.

So what now? The tank is uncoated and when i got it I was careful to remove rust with vinegar and always kept it topped off with fuel but it seems i had this problem already in the works.

It doesn't sound like any of the tank sealers on the market are perfect and I understand a lot of the lifespan/success rate comes down to prep and application of product. That said, any suggestions on which way to go? (Kreem is a no-go)

*EDIT* double-dumb, thought i was making this post in the SOHC/4 bikes sub forum not the Open Forum. Mods please move if you feel fit. thanks

Redkote would do it with rust and pinholes.
