Wires under tank area? need advice ....
« on: December 17, 2006, 08:44:11 PM »
Hey guys ..... I can't remember, what do the light green/dark green/black wires connect to that exit the wiring harness at the coil wires?  I can't think of any obvious candidates and with this as a CR750 project I have removed a lot of stuff before refinishing the frame.  These would be to something under the tank ?? Any ideas??  thanks!  Mike

The coils get juice from the black wire with the white stripe (emergency switched power) while the horn gets power from the solid black wire (hot from key switch). Sounds like they are the horn wires.

That makes sense since this bike did not have horns when I bought it and that is about the right area for the wires to exit the main loom.  Since there is one solid black, one light green and one dark green all the same length I am assuming the '78K K8 had two horns?  I'm guessing the greens are positive for each horn?

I will test when I get power into the bike ..... still just halfway building back up.  ;D

Hey Mike!

We just went through this (actually still doing so  >:( ) with my bike.  '78 K model had one horn.  Apparently one light green wire is a spare.  See the thread from the other day about Surprise wire.

Take care.

Be careful. Sometimes a Light Green and Green wires look the same. Really the light green (LG on Honda's wiring diagram) is the horn, and the green (G on the wiring diagram) is a ground.

A bright light and careful comparison is the only way to prevent a mix up. Or everytime you press the horn button you will short your DC buss to ground and blow a fuse.
