Yamiya "lotus" pipes (VIDEOS)

Cheers all!  Been awhile since I have posted.  Been building vintage Honda mini bikes while taking a break from the larger Hondas.

Many of you know I have the 341 repops on my JDMK1 and they are nice pipes but I want a bit more performance while keeping the stock look. 

Here is the bike; 836, headwork, cr29's etc.

My understanding is that the first handful of 1969, sandcast, 750's came with the "no stamp" pipes with the lotus root baffle.   I think these will help my bike breath better and I have heard the sound is awesome.

I had a set of unnumbered pipes..the baffles were about 8 inches long..

We think the same way Steve-o!  What I have read, the pipes were on the first sandcast bikes and have a different design and baffle than 300's.  If you remove the baffles you pretty much have megaphones.

I know they are not correct for my K1 but after a few IPA's I pulled the trigger.  Love the sound and they should give me a decent improvement in performance over the 341 repops I am currently running.

Good choice to your really nice bike!

I read that the first 4148 CB750 sandcasts had the Lotus Root pipes.

My bike need a set since it flattens out at 8500 rpm with HM300 replicas, DP315 cam must like more, at least strong 1000 rpm more. My engine has 1005cc so there are some gases that want out 8)

This will fit ported head w 34mm inlet valves with slim stems, DP315 cam, 1005cc JMR billet block, APE ultra crank w Carillos and lightened alternator, + undercutted trans+ Mikuni TMR32 carbs.
It's a must and let that parts produce the power it can give.

I should order now if I could. I have to prioritize my family and vacation in Greece. I have to wait. Yamiya750 will get a batch in July too.

My HM300 replicas will fit my K2 project.

Don.... if your friend needs a new Harley exhaust I have the new take off from my 2003 Fat Boy stashed away plus a few other things too. You could pick them up for him if you come to the Reunion. Cheap too.

 Thanks Jerry, I got a set free but he's annoying so I sold them to him for $40. He tried to gut his mufflers but one is too hard to do so he bought my set so he can gut 2 easy ones.
 I'd love to hear the lotus root pipes. I still think Hooker 4-2's are the best sounding 750 pipes so far.

 I think I have read that the first no number pipes had no internal baffle chambers, just a removable baffle. Then the HM300 came along and still had a removable baffle but I think possibly 3 internal chambers. Lastly the HM341's with no real baffle just a cap 'diffuser' on the end and possibly 5 internal chambers.  Those facts may need correcting but you get the idea.

Don R the hog mufflers from the nineties, I put in a fixture and used a holesaw to cut out the inner core. That way you could weld it back in. It worked too. Bored an 883 to 1200, hemi shape in the head, stock carb and cover, less filter, the gutted mufflers... 12.7 ...first time out.
 Back to the unnumbered pipes I had.. Dont know about the lotus root....but.. I could probably draw what the baffle looked like, but not to scale.. Not sure but I think pipe was pretty empty with baffle out. I was luvkyvto find the pipes, they went on #572.... But I never heard it run.

Got the Lotus Root pies installed today and I am more than happy with the sound and performance vs the re-pop 341's I was running.  The pipes are wide open with the exception of the one internal piece that the baffle rest on.

I agree, the baffles will not come out again.  I removed them just for the video.

Yes, the baffle is about 8 inches and is pretty solid.  if one happened to come out on the highway it would do some damage to any following vehicles.
The pipes themselves are significantly lighter than the 341's.

I was thinking the same thing before reading responses, that it sounded better with the baffles.  The whole package just sounds tighter and smoother.  Nice choice, Tweakin, and such a pretty 750, too.

Top one is what the baffles look like, with packing inside.
Did you get a pic of baffles..are they like 8 inches long with a perf tube sticking out the inner end ?

There is restrictive disc inside the Lotus Root pipes? The diameter of the hole in it is rather wide?

I plan to replace my HM300 that has less discs than HM341.

Possible to remove the fiber glass lining in the baffles without ripping it apart?

It is a thin perforated disc inside that supports the baffle. 

Here are pics of the baffle removed, doesn't look like you can remove the packing.

 OK, pipes are like racing megaphones without baffles in. I'll most likely remove the fiber.

I'll see when I have a set. New Dyno to compare with HM300.

That is a beautiful bike mate, well done! I've got a set of unstamped repro pipes from Yamiya in a box in my garage that I bought from Nic for my 1969 K0, I haven't actually opened the box so I don't know if mine are the same as yours or not, so I better open it tomorrow and find out! Terry, I guess yours are the HM300 replicas with bottle like baffles/diffusers. Removal of the fiber wrapping must be minimum to not strangle the engine. My bike like it open. A not tuned bike will probably work fine with them in without the wrapping though.

I keep an eye on Yamiya750's stock of Lotus Root. Still in stock plus they answered me about another batch in July.

Good to have another CB750 project I can use my CB750 parts on when upgrading the first one ;)

I had to listen a few times back to back but originally I was convinced on voting w/out the baffles but after a few listens I'm in agreement with the rest and like it with the baffles. Any chance you have a link to where to purchase! I'm in the market for a new set of pipes myself and I think you just helped me make that decision! Thanks for taking the time to post up all the videos to easily see/hear the differences...

If the engine is not modified, HM300 replica work fine too! Good sound and has better flow than the more restrictive HM341.
Yamiya750 has both HM300 and Lotus Root.
HM300 no no replicas currently out of stock: 1500 USD

BTW, you shop like I do!  ;D

I know they are not correct for my K1 but after a few IPA's I pulled the trigger. Love the sound and they should give me a decent improvement in performance over the 341 repops I am currently running.

Tweakin, you run with baffles in and  packing too?
The baffles are painted black, packing not painted which means that it must be possible to take the baffle apart. The end with thread look like a cap that is pressed on after paint and packing went in, the bolt keep it together and in the pipe too.

I'll try to take it apart, the packing inside cannot be good, restricting power choking the exhaust.  I guess sound will be nice with baffles in without any packing.

The 2 small extra pipes  to fix both sides pipes together was a surprise. It must restrict the flow between 1-2, and 3-4 in the end.  The rubber with clamp might not be needed?
