Sleep - anyone else only sleep 4 hours a day?
« on: June 17, 2017, 04:27:27 AM »
Hi All,

sometimes it seems I get too much sleep, ie, more than 4 hours a night and am tired for the rest of the day... 8)

But during the winter months I usually sleep 6 hours. Is that strange or what?

It's your French blood Michel, Napoleon (OK, he was Corsican, but close enough) said that any more than 4 hours sleep was a waste. Hitler had a similar outlook, as did many other despots in history. Personally, if those guys had just stayed in bed a bit longer, the world would probably be a better place......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sleep is 'Golden' for me  :) I do my best to listen to my body and get naps here and there;I look at it as 'giving myself the gift of rest'.

I wouldn't sleep well at all if it weren't for some herbal supplements.

I was told by my medical Dr. that the brain stops making Melatonin after about 50yrs. old so I have taken one before bed for years and it helps.

I'd sleep 10 if I could, but my back rarely allows me to sleep more than 6 and the cat certainly won't allow me to sleep more than 7.  He requires me to escort him to his food dish at 3 am.

About 6 for me. I've cut down on caffeine intake which seems to help.

I wish I could be comfortable taking pills for things.  Just knowing enough of how the business behind drug manufacturing works, while not knowing enough biochemistry...I'm always suspicious of stuff.  Even antacids.
Think I'll be sticking to the plant based carbohydrate that grows in dirt.

I sleep 4 hours every 24 hour period.  Then I come back from the bathroom and sleep another 3 or 4 hours.

I found that as I've gotten older (retired now) I sleep less, but nap more. Really strange. Now I'm in bed by nine and awake at five.

This! And a nap after dinner too!  ;D

What really pisses me off though, is at the weekend when I don't have to set the alarm I still wake up at the same time!

Ah biorhythm patterns.

I'm just happy I can still wake up!  There will come a day...

I really don't have any schedule, since retirement.  What amazes me is that when I do have an appointment that requires setting the clock, I seem to wake up 10-5 minutes before the alarm goes off.  What the heck causes that?   :o

I'm at work for the next 72 hours, praying to sleep at least 4 hours a night! Joking aside, if I don't get at least 6-7 hours when I'm at home I usually fall asleep sometime during the day.

Sleep is way overrated...we can sleep when we get old.

Do the math.... Sleep 8  hours a day, by the time you hit 60 , you spent 20 YEARS sleeping..

Now that my daughter is 3 months old, I'm getting 5-6 hrs. Weeks ago I was only getting 4 hours, and fell asleep driving home from work twice.

Don't worry about it James, I fall asleep driving home from work most days. Luckily the traffic is so heavy I'm only driving at walking pace and the cars in front rarely notice that I've just rear-ended them.......... ;D

A good bed and where it's placed affect the sleep. My bedroom has not the best location, neither the bed. I have slept in hotel rooms where the sleep was perfect.
I'm happy to get 6-7 hours, my goal is 8. Herbal help will make the day dizzy.

Yes, 6-7 hours for me is it.   And it has gotten worse since I started doing these epic crusade bike and car projects back in 2009.   I go to sleep around maybe 10 pm thinking about them, looking at parts catalogs and then often wake up at 4 AM still thinking about them and not able to go back to sleep. If I look at the clock when I wake up, I'm done.  Might as well get up because I'm not going back to sleep if I look at the clock.

My rusty-floored, dead since about 1984, locked up motor, GM A-Body, 1970 El Camino project is the latest in this line of vehicles to afflict me. But it'll be a good car (trar? Or maybe "cruck"?) in perhaps two years when I'm done.   Stroker 383 crate motor . . . here I come.

Did you get a guity conscience for only paying that little old lady a $100 for your last Honda?  There is atonement for that sin by sending one of your extras up North.  We are running low.  Syracuse used to be the land flowing with milk and Hondas.  Now the river has run dry.  :-X  The universe will thank you for restoring the cosmic balance.

O back to the real topic.  Sleep.  I have a friend who is a world class sleeper he can log in a solid 18 hours a day.  It is amazing how soundly he sleeps.  Earthquakes, loud motorcycles, alarms, war nothing wakes this guy.  I told him that he should teach a course on it or something.

From the replies, not everyone here is getting their fair share of slumber.  I log a good 6 to 8 hours each night.  Catch a nap sometimes too.
