Yeah i agree, do each carb a little at a time till they all match

In reading your original post, you refer to adjusting the idle stop screw and jet needle.  You need to be adjusting the slide nuts at the top of the carbs or cable adjusts if you have very early set of carbs with 4 cables attaching to the carbs. Also, you need to put the snubber valves in line with each vacuum line and locate it near the carb, not near the gage.

-P.

yes I was adjusting the slide nuts which makes the needle go up or down right? I was adjusting about quarter turn at a time. If I recall if I did a full half turn the bike would die, so I turned the other way and the bike was revving high. So I just put it back to the original position and adjusted the throttle stop screw which didn't do much with the vacuum

Emgo suggest near the gauge. Heres some instructions.

Thanks! I'll print these out

A quarter turn is a LOT!  Do it gradually and slowly.  You want to have about ~2-3 threads showing on the adjusting rods above the smaller lock nut.  This should give you room to work with.  You want to be sure all your carb to intake pipe boots are tight and not leaking air.

-P.

Alright I'll try this next time. Just a little confusing what exactly needs to be done when with all the different info/videos out there.

From what I gathered.

Adjust the main idle screw so the the bike idles at around 1,500 (hackaweek link)
Then play with the 4 top needle nuts until all 4 carbs are within range of each other while blimping the throttle between each one?
After set the idle back to original 800-1,000 idle and play with the individual throttle stop screws to get them within range of each other at idle?

Since there is no main carb to sync to and 1 appears to be the highest, try to sync 2,3,4 to 1? (all while blimping throttle between, or should I shut off the engine then blimp throttle as in the video linked earlier?)

You dont need to do a lot of bkimping. But set idle to around 1500 and start synching. Adjust idle as necessary. Adjust/sync using the nuts on top a little at a time until u can get them all close. When u think u have it, shut the engine off, open the throttle all the way and let it go a couple times and then start it back and check to make sure its still good.

+1...calibrate your gauges by putting each one (one at a time) on #1 carb....and adjust them all to read the same vacuum.

Can you explain this process in more detail please? I'm not sure I really understand how to calibrate. But it's a step that I miss each time I sync.

Update: I actually I think I get it. Hook up gauge 1 to carb 1 and get a reading. Adjust the other three gauges with the screw on the face of the gauge to match the 1st gauge.

There was another post on here that I followed and I thought was helpful. I think from DYSKORD?

I followed this process and finally got my carbs synced although I now realize I missed the calibration step.

Sync 1 to 2, Sync 4 to 3, Sync 3 to 2. Repeat until they all match.

I started with 1 thread over the lock nut and then adjusted the slider slowly and waited for the change to take effect.

I would keep the idle between 1000 rpm - 1300 rpms and would adjust every time I made a change.

After I thought they were all good I would blip the throttle, turn off the bike, snap the throttle, and then turn the bike back on and verify they were all still in sync.

Then I tightened the locknut.

Nope.

Hook gauge #1 to carb #1....note the value X
Hook #2 gauge to #1 carb...it should read X....if it doesnt, adjust the gauge till it reads X
hook #3 gauge to #1 carb.. it should read X....if it doesnt, adjust the gauge till it reads X
Hook #4 gauge to #1 carb...it should read X....if it doesnt, adjust the gauge till it reads X.

Just a note -- the Morgan Carbtune is a bargain right now with the pound being so low it's like $95 USD to your door. Not a shill, just noted that it's about the same price as those gauges these days...
